I sell printing for a living... I print trail maps for some ski areas... I smell a reprint coming soon! How does one navigate a ski area without a trail map? If this were to be true, trust me, this will be an expensive bonfire!! The more I think about this one, the funnier it gets. Good one!!A Real Bonfire but Stowe and Vail are just burning all the other Ski mountains Road access signs and Ski maps.
As to Stowe rescue and the lost and/or NEEDING RESCUE snow adventures. You need to be prepared to hike back up if you can. Getting cliff-ed out sucks. As to the maps I think they are more helpful to allow self rescue or proper route planning. Knowing there is a cliff band or Having background on a route is key to any off map attempt and researching prior expeditions of another explorer is a safety thing as much as a possible route planning.
