Date(s) Skied: 12/19/13

Resort or Ski Area: Snow Ridge

Conditions: Powder

Trip Report:

I was scheduled to have Friday off. I decided to swap it for Thursday after hearing that Snow Ridge was due for another foot of snow. With the predicted monsoon on the way, I figured I get one last powder day in before it hit. I kept checking NOAA through the night, and watched the predicted snowfall drop to 1-2". I didn't think that warranted a 300 mile round trip. I called Rambo early this morning and was going to change
the plan to ski Greek Peak. Rambo said SR's webcam was looking good. Hard to tell on my phone. We decided to go.

Glad we did, they got about a foot of fluffy light snow. We got the second chair, and got first tracks on North Slope. We skied all day from open til close. The morning was sunny, clouds gathered just before noon. I wish I had taken more pics, but for some reason my phone didn't charge plugged into the USB port in my car.

SR's funky, retro lodge. Cool paper lanterns.

Finishing touches on South Slope grooming just prior to opening.

I knew this wouldn't show in a photo, this is the wall of a ravine, believe it or not, it's steeper than hell.

Looking into the ravine, a little more perspective.

Went to Snow Ridge or (Powder Ridge) on Thurs. with Cornhead. Ended up being one epic ski-day! Took a few runs to get used to the powder. Have a few pics:

Man. I've never heard of this place before the recent trip reports. A foot of snow sounds pretty good right now.

Last run of the day was down Kuersteiner, a narrower, somewhat winding trail down the far side of the main area, skiers right, and it goes through the woods. Deeper powder here. Tracks shown are Cornheads.

Nice guys! Like the pics of the lodge. I forgot what it was like in there!
Thanks Huck, the food leaves a little to be desired, but with $15 lift tickets, I can live with that. I like the lanterns, some of them are pretty grungy. Two guys spent the whole day clearing snow from the building with the bar in it. I doubt it would survive 4ft of snow, plus the weight of the coming rain. Better them than me! I noticed on my last run that we have something in common, see my sig.
