.LONG TERM /TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY/...
ON TUESDAY NIGHT...THE HIGH WHICH WAS OVER NEW ENGLAND WEAKENS
AND LIFTS NORTH AS A LARGE LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM MOVES IN FROM
THE OHIO VALLEY AND DEEPENS. THE LOW TRANSFERS ITS ENERGY TO
THE COASTAL AREA WEDNESDAY MORNING AND BY EVENING THE CENTER
IS JUST NORTH OF CAPE COD AND MOVING NORTHEAST. BY THURSDAY
MORNING IT WILL BE IN THE GULF OF ST LAWRENCE. THIS STORM HAS
THE POTENTIAL TO MEET/EXCEED WARNING THRESHOLDS ESPECIALLY
NORTH AND WEST WHERE MOST...IF NOT ALL...OF THE PRECIP WILL
COME AS SNOW. HOWEVER IT APPEARS THAT WARM AIR WILL WORK ITS
WAY IN ALOFT AND CAUSE SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF THE PRECIP TO
COME AS SLEET...FREEZING RAIN...AND RAIN...OVER THE MID
HUDSON REGION OF NEW YORK...THE EASTERN CATSKILLS...TACONICS...
NORTHWESTERN CONNECTICUT...AND THE SOUTHERN BERKSHIRES.
MOST SIGNIFICANT
SYSTEM IN THE 7-DAY PERIOD THEN PUSHES INTO THE NORTHEASTERN STATES
BY TUESDAY NIGHT INTO WED/WED NIGHT. AS HAS BEEN THE CASE WITH MANY
OF THESE LARGER-SCALE SYSTEMS OVER THE PAST TWO WINTERS...INITIAL
WAA/PCPN SURGE TUE NIGHT/EARLY WEDNESDAY WILL BE DRIVEN BY
OCCLUDING PARENT LOW ACROSS THE GREAT LAKES...WITH ADDL SUPPORT
COMING THEREAFTER FROM LATE COASTAL DEVELOPMENT ALONG THE NERN
SEABOARD. DECENT MOISTURE SURGE ALONG WITH AMPLE FRONTOGENETICAL
FORCING DURING EARLY PHASE OF SYSTEM...AND POTENTIAL DEFORMANTION
ZONE DYNAMICS ON THE TAIL END SHOULD ALLOW FOR A WIDESPEAD MODERATE
TO PERHAPS LOCALLY HEAVY PCPN EVENT. MEAN THERMAL PROFILES REMAIN A
TAD PROBLEMATIC SHOWING AT LEAST THE POTENTIAL OF SOME MIXED PCPN
AND/OR ICE DURING A PORTION OF THE EVENT...ESP SERN HALF OF VT. ADDL
CONCERNS WOULD INVOLVE THE FORMATION OF SIGNIFICANT DRY SLOT
FORMATION...TYPICAL WITH THESE MULTI-PHASED SYSTEMS. GIVEN
AFOREMENTIONED BROAD SUPPORT AMONG MODEL SOLNS...WILL MAINTAIN PRIOR
FCSTS IDEA OF PCPN PUSHING INTO THE REGION OVERNIGHT TUESDAY...AND
CONTINUING INTO WED/WED NIGHT BEFORE GRADUALLY TAPERING OFF.
Looks somewhat promising for the North Country:
Albany NWS:
Burlington NWS:
Mix down here. Lame. Oh well, we'll take one for the team this time...
i agree with steez, looks like this storm is them southeners
i think the Burlington area will get snow, but most Cent/South VT and south will see a mix and more rain the more S you go...
Big question for me is if it will be enough to get MRG open again, top to bottom. And if not, when?
I will stick my nose where it does not belong.
On Jan 1st, MRG said, "What we need is a decent storm of 6-12" of snow with "some grip to it" if we are to get the big hill going again soon. "
Look at this http://www.rsn.com/Resorts/Mad_River_Glen/Weather_Conditions go to the Snow Trends chart. They have had 1+6 = 7" in the first three days.
So if they get this midweek snow, and it's got sufficient moisture (which is what the forecasters are saying), that could be all you need, numerically speaking to re-open the big hill.
Snowfall totals have been going up so far. :-D
Wow..Northern New England is going to continue with their snowy start to the 08-09 ski season..woot..
