Just posted on their website, they received a foot of snow up top, probably by the tram terminal, which is not open. Can anyone verify this?

Stowe said it received only an inch or so last night. :-? I might doubt that total a little bit...

i don't doubt it. i was watching Roemers radar last night and it looks like an orthographic lift or jay cloud was in full effect. that and the unfrozen lakes making for some fliffy lake effect snows.
i'm pissed at myself b/c i was supposted to go and hit the snooze at 5:30. could have been making powder turns right now. damm it...

Agreed. Big waste o' time.

You'll have all the time in the world to sleep when you're dead.

On the other hand I hear caskets and urns don't do so well on snow, so keep that in mind.

Caskets do fine. It's the pallbearers that have troubles.

Morbid, morbid, morbid.

Hahaa.. most EMT's have a morbid sense of humore.

Besides, everybody knows the pallbearers are all in great shape, it's the organist that's really screwed.

Yeah, well it's a real bitch to get the hearse up to the top of the hill, they won't let 'em on the lifts.

Nice (strange?) to see you've got this all worked out.

Is it in your living will?

Would it be strange if it was?

That part I don't think will get them as much as the color guard, flyover, fireworks, the BSO, and the requests for addresses from the governer, senators and president.

We can't go out without a bang right? :)

At least the BSO cellists can ride their cases back down the mountain afterwards.

That's a good point! Same goes for the percussion folks on the timpanis. Are you for hire for funeral planner?

i can't verify it but it's been snowing all day here in the NEK which is a good indication that jay got pounded. i would trust that report unless hearing otherwise.

Jay has gotten about 3 feet in the last week supposedly but is putting off opening trails until the weekend. This is a pretty lame policy IMO. Why wait to open trails if they are skiable now? It's one thing if the lift isn't open yet and they are waiting to open that, but if there are trails that should be opened off of lifts that are already open, then why wait?

Also, they are saying 15-20+ trails for this weekend. If they really got 3 feet of snow, they should be opening a lot more than that. We'll see in a couple of days when they actually decide how many to open I guess, but they should have at least 40 I would guess. My friend was there last weekend and was already skiing the woods (and hitting rocks). He's not too bright. But with all the snow this week, even the woods should be skiable or close to it by now.

I'll be up there for the Vermont Telemark Fest this weekend. I'll post the conditions when I return. It would be ironic if I left Leominster Friday and Wachusett gets pounded like the prediction is for now, and end up needing rock skis at Jay, eh?

I'll be up there on Sunday too. I'll be at Smuggs Fri and Sat. I actually will have my rock skis - partly because my new skis aren't mounted yet.

As per the Jay snow report they got another 5-6" yesterday, but they really don't know if this is accurate because the wind has picked up. This is probably the reason they can't open more than 15-20 trails. Most of the snow has blown off and into the woods :D . A lot of the trails on the upper mountain need a lot of snow to open, and there is limited snow making on those trails.

I agree with you that they should open terrain as soon as the conditions become favorable, if to do nothing more than compact the snow to create a nice base. However opening up more terrain would necesitate (sp?) opening another lift on tram side.

who cares about rocks? jeez, if the turns are good jump in as long as it is not dangerous. base damage is only dangerous to the wallet, worth every penny when the turns are right.

perhaps jay hasn't budgeted for the staff to run the lifts yet? takes a lot of man power to turn the tram and the freezer. plus they need more patrol and if they don't have a groomed man made route down, they risk alienating folks who prefer that kind of stuff. i am sure there are reasons for not opening more terrain, it's not like they blew a ton of snow and decided not to open those trails ;)

i should be there this weekend. i am thinking saturday. if any one wants to meet up, a have a two-fer coupon...
