amen! i am always amazed at the amount of SUV's that do not have four wheel drive standard. an AWD wagon would much better meet the needs of those who need to lug equipment and passengers at the same time. though it doesn't not effect all SUV owners, there is a certain "i am invincible in an SUV" mentality that leads to more SUV's ending up in ditches on the side of the road than any other vehicle in new england winters (from my experiences and observations, i don't have data to verify that claim, but i usually notice three to four times the amount of SUV's on the side of the road than regular vehicles). i have one of the lightest weight vehicles on the road (saturn coupe) and manage to get safely to my destinations through almost 6 years of ownership.Having grown up in snowy, snowy, icy lands, I contend you can get through anything safely and with ease if you learn how to competently drive in the winter and are willing to stay on serviced roadways. I would argue, that unless you are truly going either off-road, mud-season mountain driving or high-clearance required roadways, you are wasting your money on an SUV. You would not believe the places I have gotten into with my sedan, for half the price.
