Stowe is getting great.

Profanity was the best snow of the year this A.M.
The Brook was also nice, esspecially up high.
A would go with 15-20 inches fresh snow blown in up high.
The Brook had a foot in it, down low 8 inches.
And now it's snowing again.
Monday and Tuesday (my days off) will be epic bc days, prolly the best of this year.

At my house, it started at around 9:30. Came down pretty good through 11:30, then let up big time. Just started coming down pretty good again.

We've done quite well in Central Vermont. We got several inches in the last bout and this one is looking pretty damn good for a clipper. In total I would say 14+ inches in the last two days here on the floor of the Mad River Valley and it's still coming down at a good clip as of 8:00 PM. Based on Sugarbush's reported 8-12 and MRG's 5-8 before today's fun started, they have to be looking at a good 18+ inches and counting.

That's a rough, unscientific guess, but two days ago I was looking at bare patches in the yard and today the plow guy has built up a 10 foot snow mound on one end of the driveway. I'm happy. :) :)

currently almost puking snow here in the northeast kingdom. about two inches on the ground so far in the valley, likely much more at elevation. had to drive out in the storm for reasons beyond my control... more snow flying and on the ground than i have seen in over two months, woo hoo! haven't had a crazy car ride through snow in a while. slow down people!!! stop driving like idiots. mostly people with green plates too. i am convinced that the ratio of truly bad drivers is the same everywhere, especially up here. in any case, tomorrow should be a top day of the season. it isn't going to be light fluffy powder and it isn't going to be a huge amount, but i would expect sunday to bring extremely good "true packed powder" conditions to the region. might be one of the best days of the season at jay and mansfield. though maybe not. a knowledgable skier i was with at jay peak during december's foot plus of fluff mentioned the best powder days were usually early season in december before there is so much competition like there will be tomorrow. regardless, enjoy your turns! i still have one more week and am regretably staying put.

While on the subject of driving in the snow, does anyone else hate those people who drive big SUV's and think they are invincible in the snow?

I saw quite a few of those "invincibles" rolled over in the median and off in the woods, along Rte. 93 last year. Know what? Me and my trusty FWD sedan got to the slopes before them.

On the flip side, I see a lot of people around with SUV's that are simply unskilled and never will take advantage of the capability. What a waste.

Having grown up in snowy, snowy, icy lands, I contend you can get through anything safely and with ease if you learn how to competently drive in the winter and are willing to stay on serviced roadways. I would argue, that unless you are truly going either off-road, mud-season mountain driving or high-clearance required roadways, you are wasting your money on an SUV. You would not believe the places I have gotten into with my sedan, for half the price.

amen! i am always amazed at the amount of SUV's that do not have four wheel drive standard. an AWD wagon would much better meet the needs of those who need to lug equipment and passengers at the same time. though it doesn't not effect all SUV owners, there is a certain "i am invincible in an SUV" mentality that leads to more SUV's ending up in ditches on the side of the road than any other vehicle in new england winters (from my experiences and observations, i don't have data to verify that claim, but i usually notice three to four times the amount of SUV's on the side of the road than regular vehicles). i have one of the lightest weight vehicles on the road (saturn coupe) and manage to get safely to my destinations through almost 6 years of ownership.

biga

I gotta say three things.
First, I hope that tank had at least 6 people in it.
Second, he should be parking out back with the buses.
Third, probably driven by the same guy I saw going down Goat doing a Stem Christie.

That's because while they may have 4-Wheel Drive and can go like hell in the snow, they forget that EVERY vehicle has 4-Wheel Brakes and the little front drive car is easier to stop on snow or ice than a 2-ton behemouth! : )
