I saw that they reported 2 feet but it makes me wonder why they did not open any new trails. They showed the same 6 as yesterday.
Looking at the update on the website, they sure seem to have a lot of snow though.
The trails are not closed...they are reserved..I love when it takes ski patrollers a few days to open new terrain..by the time Goat at Stowe opens..it's usually already tracked out..
but at stowe you give the patrole a wink and they nod back and its good to go. that like the storm we got last year in october. they where having as much fun as everyone else. plus at that time of year its locals anyway.

I agree! From my experience, I have seen the Stowe patrol look the other way plenty of times in regard to poaching. I've seen them crack down too though!! They'll leave you alone if you lay low and appear to know what you're doing...the time I saw them rip a guy's ticket, it was clear that he didn't belong on a closed Chin Clip. The dude was having a really hard time on the second steeper pitch of the trail in about 1' of late spring fresh...meaning there were some spots underneath the fresh that would be a bit "dicey"(bare spots, ledge, etc)... They were nice to him, but took his ticket. I think they were insuring that they wouldn't be hauliing him out on a sled later. The two patrollers didn't bother with me and my buddy who were waiting just upslope of the situation. I didn't think they saw us...but, we ran into them a run or two later on chin clip again and they just chatted it up with us.
One would think that with that amount of new snow at least 50% of the mountain would be open.
A guess here, but since there probably wasn't much in base before the storm, they might not feel comfortable opening terrain until it's thoroughly checked out and/or groomed.

I've had similar experiences during my years at Stowe, especially early season and I'm not sure if I agree with selective pass removals.
With the long standing culture at that mountain of people skiing whatever they feel comfortable handling, I think most patrolers realize they'd be fighting an uphill battle enforcing trail closures.
As a fellow patroller we reserve the right to reserve trails for ourselves  well some of the time. Have to make sure its safe and all.....
i think it comes from the fact that alot of people that use the mountain in winter use it in summer and know the place well. plus so many of us use the mountain in the early and late season. that the patrol knows most of us know what we ae doing but if there is someone who is obviously not cutting it it they sould be repramanded hard because at stowe you can really hurt yourself real quick.
