Kmart is desparate to increase it's non-season pass visits, after all, last year they suffered an 18% decrease in skier visits, the greatest decrease in the northeast, maybe the country. People who want to ski there should be able to gets some pretty good deals througout the entire season. I would asume Mt Snow, in a similar pickle, will be following suit.

IMHO both resorts are between a rock and a hard place financially. The cheap season passes has turned off the non-season pass crowd for a variety of reasons. They can't stop offering the cheap passes for obvious reasons. A good snow year and working hard on bringing those people back might not be enough....should be interesting.

Does that offering also include the following:

A 25% shorter ski season

25% less snowmaking each season

25% more rust and grime on their infrastructure.

Honestly I was a big fan of Killington back before ASC took it over, but I see no positive benefits of ASC ownership. When was the last time they installed a new lift, 1998? Snowmaking is far less intensive than in past years and the ski season is a shadow of it's former glory.

Skiing their now is painfull for me because it is hard to see the place deteriorating before my very eyes. Killington needs a owner that cares about skiing.

I don't want this thread to turn into another K bashing deal...we have had a bunch of those if you want to take a look back.

That's not my intention either, I am just stating the facts as I see them. If Killington is giving up 25% in discounts, I am sure that they will take it back somewhere else along the way to make up for it. Hopefully we have a good snow year, if not it could be the last nail in the ASC coffin.

Fingers, toes, ski poles (hopefully not my ski's) are crossed for a good winter season ahead.

solid observations. i would expect nothing less from the observer!

could be a drive to increase off season revenue as well. maybe ASC needs some quick cash to make their fall loan payments?
