I can't believe i"m not rooting harder for a-rod than any other player in the game. God I hate bonds. I also hate that he took all the joy out of the record. I didn't even care the he broke the record. I didn't watch it or even think about it. How lame is that... This is one of the best records in sports and I didn't even care.

And a 22 year old kid from Queens, NY emerged bloodied with the historic HR ball. Had to be escorted to a safe room by police.

Was in town for a layover and bought tickets just before the game started.

Like hitting the daily number.

Yeah, I just heard on the radio that some sports memorabilia guy estimated that the ball is worth between $400-500,000. Not bad for a bleacher seat he bought an hour before the game.

As for the record I, too, have not really been following or really feel that it is as substantial as it should. A reporter asked Bonds last night if he at all feels that the record is "tainted". Of course, he said, no not at all. However, I can't wait for the next guy to break his new mark. Let's also hope that A-rod's career isn't cut short due to injury.

Sad...because Bonds is most likely the best pure hitter of his generation and probably the best in the past 20 years, A-rod included. And he would have hit 500 homers anyway without the juice, which combined with his stolen bases and fielding would have guaranteed him the Hall of Fame. The man still has the best swing and power stroke I've ever seen. Effortless.

But his use of steroids has tainted all of that.

Depending on the results of the Federal Grand Jury investigating him, he may end up with a few years of just sitting around "contemplating his thoughts"

500k is way less than the 3 mil that the Big mac 70th home run ball fetched.
I guess that says something about how the value of the achievement has changed.

The value of achievement is the same...but the level of that achievement has been compromised. They (cheated) had help.

Well I say good for Bonds. The league was aware of what was going on back then. They did nothing to police it. After the strike when they were in very bad shape they were happy to see the home run derbies. It had a big lift on MLB to bring it to the point it is now.
Selig playing holier than thow. To heck with him
As for 3million dollar ball compared to 400k. I saw people buying munder net net at 86 bucks a share back then its not worth that anymore. I

cant stand bonds but that has nothing to do with steroids. if you want to taint his record, then you have to do it for McGuire's totals, Sosa, Brady Anderson, Todd Helton, Shawn Green, Canseco and on and on and on. Look how many players literally stopped hitting home runs when the heat went on. Well, maybe Shawn Green and Helton are a stretch but the list of players who literally went from 30-40 + a year to just teens is astounding.

Yeah, if you are willing to make the assumption Bonds was juicing you have to also assume the majority of the leauge was as well. 'Roids aren't just for home runs, in fact they're probably more useful for pitchers (healing torn muscle). Bonds may be an A-hole, but he hits the ball better than any other A-hole in the game.:smash:

I hear alot of people getting on him on how he posed after he hit the home-run, well i cant say much about that one of my players on the redsox does that just about everytime after he hits a homer.. The only good that came out of this is i wont have to stay up late anymore to watch anymore Giants games this year or anytime in the near future because they will all be meaningless.

I'm sorry, I know it's a bad comparison, but I can't help get the image of Hitler riding through Paris out of my head when I think of Bonds getting his home run...it's hard to cheer someone who seems like such a thug.

It's funny how the guy making a record gets singled out when most athletes in the major pro sports leagues are juiced. Maybe things are getting better (I don't follow the game any more), but couple years ago you could visibly notice that most players were juicing. Bonds lays off the juice and is still slamming them out of the park. The guy is a great baseball player regardless if he racked up a few extra home runs due to juice. You might as well put an asterisk next to almost every single record broken in the past 10 years but Bonds get singled out because it is such a significant record. Meh, what ever I say. It isn't Barry's fault he was doing what everyone else was doing and the league and player's union couldn't get their you know what together to fix this thing before it became a huge issue.
