We finally got to go skiing this season. What a long wait it has been. 7Springs has really cranked up the snowmakers over the last week and a half. The whole area was open, including some decent tree shots. They had gotten a good 10 inches or so of natural over the past several days. The main area we skied is called the North Face. 750 vertical of mostly wide open slopes. The most interesting area is on the western edge and that's also the most crowded. I had several people say that's the busiest day they had ever seen there. The lift lines were at least 10 minutes if not more.
The conditions were very good, as they usually are at the Springs. Their snowmaking is second to none, and it shows. We did several runs on the North Face then headed to another area that usually isn't as crowded. That has changed. The new owners had some, well a lot, of trees removed in the Alpine Meadows area. This was to accomadate a super pipe( which wasn't in yet) and a terrain park. That brought a few more people to the area.
I was skiing solo after lunch, and able to hit the singles line. That made the wait much shorter. My favorite 2 runs were natural snow trails. One under the lift and another a nice glade.I wanted to check out the much smaller (350-400 vert.) front side, but I was warned by a few people that it was even more crowded. It has some interesting spots here and there. I ended the day with a couple of runs down what was left of Alpine Meadows Glade. It was nice to feel snow under my skis again. Not a bad day at all. Our next trip will probably be to Perfect North Slopes, IN. We've been there once and always wanted to try it again. And it's a lot closer than 7Springs.
