So in the pet peeve thread, we got on to the topic of Girl Scout cookies and I have committed to buying some from Paul's daughter-still working on logistics but it will happen. As a concurrent good-thing-to-do project, I plan to send a care package to kid who used be my neighbor and is now serving in Iraq. This is a match made in heaven. I really don't need the empty calories but support both scouting and our soldiers. The cookies are going to Iraq.

A mother of another soldier recently told me that they really appreciate treats in the mail over there. No matter how you feel about the US participation in Iraq (no politics rule), I encourage you to do the same-it's really not that hard to find someone serving there that has connections to nearly every community in America. Quite frankly, it would be clever if the Girl Scouts offered this as a complete service where you pay for the addtional shipping to make it happen.

This is a fantastic idea. I have purchased several cases of Girl Scout Cookies from the daughter of a woman I worked with at a hotel here in town over the past couple of years. I probably end up throwing out two thirds of what I buy as I simply don't have a sweet tooth.

If you could provide me with the logistics of how to send the cookies over there through you pursuing this arrangement, I'd appreciate it. In such a situation with politics aside (okay, not fully aside, I NEVER supported this war), I would gladly buy double the amount of cookies I normally would and send them over seas.

Chris,
The form this year has a box where you can designate how many boxes you want to donate to the troops. The GS of A will handle the logistics for you. :flag:

I agree, its a great idea, and really gives our troops a feeling of "Home."

Thanks again, BTW. They usually arrive in early March. Gives us a really good excuse to head-up and do some turns with you in NH!

A friggin' excellent idea, thanks.

The only downside is that I can't get thoughts of these out of my head....

I hate the war... I love our troops.. Whatever... It's how i feel..

That being said - I've been involved in a couple of local(Hunter) events where we collected soap, shampoo and some other stuff and made little gift bags for our troops. i travel so much that i started collecting soap and stuff from hotels.. Apparently the stuff they give out to troops sucks - so they appreciate the luxury of decent soap, etc....

there ARE things we can do as individuals that don't involve a faded yellow ribbon on your car !
