Typically, ski areas start "blowing out the mice" last week of September or first week of October. I kinda wish Killington would open early (I'm sure they would if they got a dump in October, no way they'd hold back from that) but, November is only a little over 2 months away. Maybe if we can actually get snow this January instead of rain or -20 (only 53" last January here, how pathetic? ). Note to the folks up in northern VT and ME: Check out the temps for us these next few mornings. Could get some more reports of 30s.

i think k is the only area that really makes a big deal about 'blowing out the mice' before it's cold enough to really make much snow. real snow making likely will not commence for at least another two months at best. i disagree that killington would open early even with a big dump. they could get two feet in october and wouldn't bat an eye at opening before the first weekend of november.

i deserved that bvibert. but i gotta be realistic. false hope and optimism only sets you up for a big let down. it's coming soon, no need to get too excited quite yet...

Funny thing is..
Hunter and Killington may open the same day this year...

Killingon has taken away my reasons to go..
No early and not much late skiing...

I long for the days of October skiing on Upper Cascade.. Taking the single chair up...

Ohh well...

Oh no, my cynicism is rubbing off...
heh, i am at the tail end of the gen x grouping, so i am cynical by association ;) not that i would allow myself to be defined by a group, but it is definitely a defining characteristic. i am definitely excited for ski season and can't wait for temps to go below freezing. just not getting myself all worked up about it quite yet.

Enjoy the summer! It is short enough - Right now is the best - fresh tomatoes, cheap lobsters, beautiful late summer days 8)

Some leaves are turning here in central MA (started right on August 6th last year). Most don't go until mid-October, but seeing a couple of oranges and yellows here and there is pretty good.

Summer's nice...but one month of it is enough for me. Bring on the show...and the SNOW!
