Resort or Ski Area: Mount Sunapee

Conditions: P/PP/FG

Trip Report: Last week I had promised to hit Sunapee with a friend who had not skied with me. I was looking forward to taking some runs and, with the possibility of a dumping, I thought that would be a good idea.

On Sunday, I sent her a confirmation E-mail and didn't hear back.

"She's in Boston with her swim team," Ms. Trailboss said. "Probably stranded there." :(

So I took this as fact and left her a voicemail saying that I was still game for some turns.

This morning, I had not heard anything and went to school planning on coming home and struggling to get some work done. The blue bird skies were making me :( and long for the slopes.

First class was at 8:30 and I opened my E-mail to find, "I'm back in Lebanon. Sunapee today?"

I thought, and was  at myself for not packing to go.

"Sure, I don't have my stuff, but I can make a quick run home and meet you at 2pm," I replied.

So after class, I ran home, grabbed a sandwich and my gear, and was in the car in less than 10 mins. I pulled into the lot at just shy of 2pm and was greeted by powder and partly cloudy skies.

First run was a solo warm up on Bonanza and Hansen Chase. A bit more ice than expected, but a decent warm up. I was able to find some pow on the sides.

My friend met me at the HSQ. She, spending her college years at Colorado College, had become an accomplished skier and had been spoiled by Rocky Mountain Powdah, so she was getting adjusted to the East coast.

First run was down Skyway Ledges and into the Sunbowl. I found more powder and was getting into the groove. She kept pace with me, turn for turn, and we flew down Sundance, hitting the powder in the usual spot. Next run was down an icy Porky's to Wingding, which was pow on the sides. I was doing short turns on the side while she was ripping GS turns.

I was in the game. Hitting every roll and really wondering why I was actually considering NOT coming  Crazy me.

We then went down Blast Off, which was scratchy in the usual places, but nice and soft on the bottom.

We met another friend, Chad, a boarder. "I'd really like to hit the Sunbowl," he said, so we did Wingding and Porky's again. I snuck onto Upper Williamson...almost there in terms of cover. At the bottom I screamed over to Kartwheel (in fine shape).

Next run was down Skyway Ledges to Hansen Chase...with TB here getting some unintended air  after catching a lip going from Byway to Hansen.

Bonanza and the soft Chipmunk bumps were next....the bumps were on a spot that was a bit flat, but it was fun all the same  Closer was a nice cruiser down Ridge with the sun in our faces.

Great day. It's been a solid month since I was last there...what a difference some :snow: makes in ones life!
