Can anyone give me advise on what brand of helmut is comfortable/strong and well made. I have NEVER worn one before for skiing purposes, but I know always wear one while kayaking.

What helmet is right for you depends on the shape of your head, much the same as the right ski boot depends on the shape of your foot. IMO all the major brands of helmets are as safe as the others. Plan on spending some time in the shop trying on different models and brands. Just pick the one that fits the best and is in your price range. Its a good idea to bring your goggles along too to make sure they fit the helmet.

I have the Giro Nine with the earphone pads for my mp3 player. Fits well, looks good .... fortunately I can't tell you how it holds up to a good old smack.

just try as many on as possible. if you want something very light weight and unrestrictive, the giro9 is one you should look at.
Do you mean HELMET? You're starting to sound like beswift...he called it 'helmut' as well and claimed that he >>>went to Dartmouth<<<

I never though about wearing one until I started wearing a kayaking helmet in August. It came in handy when I flipped over on the Esophus, and it felt good to have head protection. Since my son always wears one, daddy should set a good example and buy one.

Advice on helmets: go to a shop and try them on. You WILL NOT be wearing anything else on your head except for that helmet...so don't plan on getting a big helmet 'cause you're going to wear a hat underneath or anything...

I can't wear a hat underneath the helmet? I am used to snowmobiling with my ski hat on, but I guess the snowmobiling helmet's have alot more room inside.

You could wear a hat if your helmet is too big. It won't be a good fit or be as effective though. A helmet will keep your head plenty warm, sometimes too warm, thats why its good to have some sort of ventilation adjustment on the helmet you choose.

never wear a hat with a helmet. if you are able to fit a hat under your helmet, your helmet is way to big. you can wear head socks (can't remember their proper name) under your helmet providing they are pretty thin. most people complain about helmets being warmer than hats. while i have found the opposite to be true for the giro9, very rarely do i need to switch the helmet for a hat when it's extra cold out.
