Almost Nothing Left at Attitash or Bretton

Hardly anything left at Bretton Woods today when I drove by en route to Attitash. I had been expecting a lot of melt and suspected it was just a photo opp and a system test, but they really didn't put much snow out. I was much more surprised by what I saw at Attitash/Bear Peak. More than Bretton but barely enough to make the hike up worth while. Okay, who am I kidding, I would have skied the patches at Bretton at Attitash hadn't had something better. Attitash proper had hardly any snow left while Bear Peak had occasional patches by each of the snow guns. Barely a dusting in most places, two inches deep at best. Hard to believe it melted out so quickly but they blew on unfrozen ground.

Looks like it will be gone tomorrow. Probably the only areas that will have appreciable snow left by the end of the week looks like Killington and the River.

As I said in the other thread, no matter what the motive, I give props to ALL of the areas that blew snow the past couple of nights. Sunday River obviously gets the biggest props though. Going for the gusto to offer lift serviced terrain if for only a day.

Oof. Nobody had a good read on what Attitash really put out. My guess is their (lack of) elevation killed them. The Bear Peak summit is roughly the same as Mount Snow's base in terms of elevation. You need Lat as well as Alt for October snowmaking to hang around apparently. Hopefully, Killington will hang on to their effort a bit better.

Heading to the River tomorrow?

There's not even enough for a good snowball fight :(

If there is enough to slide on, there is enough for a snowball fight! Got a full write up posted now.

Nah, I can't bag a full day of work at this point. Though BDay turns would be nice.... Today was possible due to leaving work early and barely squeeking this thing out before sun set. If Day Light Savings time hadn't change, I probably would not have had the time to go today.

Thanks for the report and the pics Steve, even if it isn't particularly good news.

Happy BDay too!

Hate to break it to you, but daylight savings hasnt changed yet.

I think he means if they hadn't changed the date and we had set the time back this past weekend (when it should have been) it would have been too dark too early for his mission to be a success...

Would have gotten out of work a hour earlier, and maybe gotten another run.:snow:

.

Sugarbush should be in good shape as well. Win said they put down a foot and a half on Jester. That ought to stick through the week, based on the forecast.

This is why Mt Sneaux just blew on launch pad, they knew this would happen. Look for an effort to get truely open on friday as weather turns for the better.
