That guy is a complete idiot for not checking the landing area first. There was a giant ball of snow that caused him to fall, why on earth wouldn't you move it. Also there must be another place to jump where there isn't so many crevasses. And finally if you're going to jump into an area with a ton of crevasses don't land switch. What was that camera man thinking. Seriously what kind of moron sits there and films instead of helping someone out of the crevasse that is what slip away from dying. end rant.

that looked like a ski area built jump? i certainly wouldn't think to check for cravases if ski on an open trail in bounds at a ski area. given that the extraction was not filmed, it should probably be assumed the dude put the camera down to help once he realized how serious the situation was.

That was Rory Bushfield filming for poorboyz about three years ago out of bounds at Timberline. I have often wonderd why they kept rolling tape to but you know how ski movies are. These guys are putting themselves in more dangerous positions every year and pushing the limits of filming and skiing.

if that was an OOB jump, then yea, that was a really stupid place to build a jump. those guys should have better scoped out the landing and aren't too bright for building a jump that close to cravasses.

regarding filming and snow sports, i am surprised there are not more severe injuries and deaths occurring due to the desire to go bigger, bolder, first descent, more air, etc. some of the stuff folks are doing for film (and for personal kicks) is getting beyond extreme and bordering on insane. especially when proper safety percautions are not taken such as this example.

Most likely that was filmed on the White River Glacier which runs down skiers left on the edge of the Palmer snowfield on Mount Hood. I have walked over to the glacier many times and the crevasses are easily 50-75' deep in places. Not exactly something I would want to ski on.

I recognized it without a caption. I have skied Mt. Hood several summers and have seen the crevasses only mere feet past the ropes. Scary indeed.
