Has anyone put their kids in one of these programs, been through it themselves, or know somebody in it? My son wants to be a ski instructor, and they seem to have a good program, but that's from the outside lookin in.

Both of my kids have been through Alpine Development. Boy is 13 and girl is 9.

Boy was in Alpine age 8-11. The program has improved over the years, as far as tracking the development of the kids. The first couple of years they were fairly clueless in the first few days of the program in placement into groups. He got bored the last year because he hated waiting for others in the group all the time. They were doing too few runs and he wanted to move. His skiing outpaced others in the "highest" group. He had taken the Holiday race camp a few years for skill development, but didn't want to race. He is more of a freeskier in style and personality.

Girl was in Alpine age 7, Race Program age 8 & 9. The Race Program for J5's really took off this year. Was very professional and instruction was outstanding. Highly recommend this program.

Both programs are no-brainers in terms of the cost of the program and the value of having consistent instructors and a group of kids that get to know and play with each other. It sort of bonds the parents and creates skiing friendships for us too.

The Junior Instructor program was new this winter and I have no idea how it went. I didn't really see any groups of Junior Instructors around the mountain. I hope they didn't use them as baby sitters or junior counselors, but really worked on teaching them to have a photographic eye, give proper feedback and teach skiing. You can probably phone up and ask them how it went. I will try to subtly coerce my 13 year old to do that next year....
