I wouldn't get all twisted about this, just means a few less gapers will be getting in your way.

As I have mentioned on other posts Ski and Sking are both owned by the Times Warner conglomerate, losing money for about the last few years, put up for sale about 2 years ago, no takers yet = spending as little money as possible, regurgitating old info when possible. I wouldn't waste a second on writing but if it makes ya feel better......

And Warren Millers unflattering scene of the famous FROZEN GRANULAR. Like he said " once you find you're way from the bottom to the top, there's nothing left to ski"
Hunter, I tell ya, they get no respect!

Back in the day - when i worked the bus lots for tickets..

We'd have the Warren Miller guys up to Hunter once a year to film beginners getting off the lift on hunter One... It's featured in a couple movies...

Good entertainment. I find European lift lines even funnier.

I will admit that "rap" is one of the reasons I've never skied Hunter. Another is the 2hr drive, but after hearing how much praise it gets on here I'm planning on checking it out 12/14 for myself.

Hunter Mountain, N.Y. By: Beattie, Rich, Ski, 00376159, Mar/Apr2007, Vol. 71, Issue 7:
"TIRED OF BEING THE LONELY stepchild to its resort brethren further north, Hunter Mountain is in the midst of a makeover. Over the past few years, the Catskills village popular with downstate skiers has classed up its main street and added the bedrock element of any big-time ski destination: a ski-in/ski-out luxury hotel, the Kaatskill Mountain Club. But change can't come all at once. After all, Hunter's still a small town, and family-run inns remain (for now) in the majority....."

Skyline to Fall Line. By: Cohen, Steve, Ski, 00376159, Jan2005, Vol. 69, Issue 5:
"...But these days Hunter is working overtime to soften its image and remake itself as all things to all skiers. So far, it's succeeding. No longer are beginners thrown to the wolves, for instance. A new state-of-the-art Learning Center takes them by the hand from bus to slopes with very un-New York compassion. All facilities are on a single level. Beginners transition seamlessly from signup to rentals to meeting their instructor, all without one struggling uphill step. From a fireside table in the center's glass-walled Goldye's Café, parents can watch their kids' progress on the segregated beginners hill. And the families are coming--often headed by parents who skied Hunter as young singles and still love its hustle.

Hunter offers the most challenge in the metro area and big vert: 1,600. The top 300 feet are little more than commuter trails to the fall line, but then there are rawboned, narrow trails sliced from rocky ledges and pitched as steeply as anything in New England. On busy days, they'll bump up and get scraped off, but they'll also hold your attention from first turn to lift maze...."

ummm...have you used an ipod lately? ;) I'm assuming this was a while ago.

The last time I used my Ipod was when the stereo in one of my cars broke. It's funny but it seems few people know about the huge comeback records have made and record players or turntables as we call them. All the old recording engineers are being rehired to start remastering LP's, no one else knows how to do it anymore. One company is even finding all the ooooooold bluesmen down south and recording them again. There is nothing like a good record played on a good system.

Wait, I'm confused...when was Hunter ever the "lonely stepchild" of any other resort?

I remember when these guys came down. I directed them to some clubs. Unfortunately we have to cater to whoever wants to write about us, and I personally don't have a huge problem with people wanting to write about nightlife (though I didn't know they'd ONLY write about nightlife). This kind of thing offends me on a personal level because I'm from New Jersey (the guy who wrote the article also has the site njguidos.com or something).

Anyway, I haven't seen the article, I'll have to go look for it. I wouldn't get too wrapped up in it -- getting coverage is good, but you always have a few people who just don't get it.

Dude. Be stoked. Better then the mag telling everyone how sick your Mtn. is and giving directions to the goods. Stowe, for example, sucks, but they keep telling everyone there's good trees here....

I totally understand what you are saying, but hey, I think plenty of people know how great Hunter is. It's not like we just opened as a business. We have a strong customer base, so if a few people are turned off, we'll make up for it.

In other news, I love this little vomiting icon. This is pretty awesome. :puke:

Yeah, for sure. Mitch Kaplan did an awesome job.

The editorial about Killington by Bill Jones is also pretty interesting. SnowEast is a pretty good magazine.

Just got off the hill. Let's focus on what Hunter does best. Make snow. Top to botton powder. Nice bumps forming. No liftline. I think I saw guido with his girlfriend walking down the side of Hellgate. I held her hand and sprayed him with snow. Other wise they are blowing everything. Looks like a problem with the water pipe on lower belt. Maybe Inhale can comment.

Check out the Powederhound cam. We readjusted it.

I'll post pics later.

We've had a few hose problems, from what I picked up on the radio this morning. No big deal. We have big snowmaking crews this year, so they'll figure something out. There are a lot of people here today, I am really surprised.

What a vast improvement over last year. I don't want to speak too soon, but damn. Last year, we had almost nothing.
