This is the year for hard lines.
The poor snow out west funneled many hard core skiers from the traditional family destinations (with their family) to the only region with decent snow: the northern Rockies (and without their usual entourage). What are in the northern Rockies? Kicking Horse, Big Sky, Jacksone Hole! All of them with much tougher terrains. The above average snow in that region also means many more lines are accessible this year!
That shows in the trip report, and the above list confirms that.
In the northeast, the last few weeks of phenomenal snow also makes many of the not often accessible lines skiable too. Hence the year of hairy lines for some. And the less hairy but new-to-me lines for many others.
