I need to know the best route from NYC to Wildcat.

Mapquest and other online sites have been useless.

Any advice will be appreciated.

you could also take 95 to 93 to NH 25...to 16. Some people prefer that route.

I'm still wondering if anyone has actually made the trip and has an opinion based on their experience.

I'd like to know about good places to stop to take a nap, and food as well. And is gas cheaper in CT, MA or NH? Things like that...

Talk to Loafer...he's done it. I made it once but went straight up 91 then swung into the MWV. Took about 7 hours.

I could be wrong but I would have to advise against 190-2-13-101-93. Too many lights, too much traffic. Depending on what time you go through there Rt.13 in Leominster can take a while. Your best bet would to be stay on the highway. 290 all the way to 495 to Rt.3N to 93.

you're right, the 13 section especially stinks.. then again so do the alternatives depending on the time of day.

I live in Metro Boston. 1. My inlaws are in NJ. 2. I ski lotz. So I've been to both ends of your journey a lot, and usually with an eye on minimizing trip time. First, you need to avoid rush hour at all cost.

Here is my proposal:

I. Chose one, depending on time traffic - It's the CT section of I95 that is a crapshoot regarding congestion.
a) I95 to I91 to Hartford
b) 687N to 84E to Hartford (a few more miles, and a little longer compared to I95 at speed)
(we've taken 95, and we've tried 395, it's longer miles & time both ways)
Rush hour in Hartford isn't that bad, isn't a deal breaker in my book.

Step II. 84E to MasspikeE , then exit ( chose one)
a) if rush hour I495N to I95 (near Amesbury)
b) if non-rush hour, I95/Rte 128N

Ste III. Continue to NH 16N into N Conway. Take westside road or North-South road to avoid the 10,000 shoppers mecca traffic lights in NC.

I can't recommend the non-interstate routes.

The I-93 route and the I-95/Rt 16 route are comparable drive time.

If you take I-93, the cheap gas stop is Irving Gas at Exit 10 in Hooksett east of I-93 across the street from the Target. Concord, NH also has a bunch of cheap gas stations.

If you take I-95 to Rt 16, cheap fuel is off the first possible exit after you get on Rt 16 in Portsmouth. Cheapest is BJ's Wholesale but you need to be a member. This morning, it was $2.87 for unleaded and $3.17 for premium. There are a couple of other stations nearby that are a little more.

If you google "New Hampshire Fuel Prices", you'll find a web site that has pretty up-to-date pricing.

There's an Irving off of 16 in Ossipee (I think) that's pretty cheap.
