i think there would be a market for night skiing in VT with the weather being so variable. lots of times, i feel unfullfilled on my saturdays because i make the drive up friday night, don;t get much sleep and end up only skiing a half day saturday.

as for snow making, how hard would it be to make some sort of reservoir on the property?

Back to the original post, the lost ski area off I-90 in New York is probably Shumaker Mountain. It often comes up for discussion on Snowjournal, but nobody seems to know any more about it than what's on this site, especially who's maintaining it and why.

I also clearly remember seeing the lights of Mt. Tom long ago from I-91, although now you can barely get glimpses of where the area was. Probably the lights shone through the trees.

A reservoir site would be problematic at Maple Valley; the hill slopes steeply right down to the road.

Yup, back in the late 80's and if memory recalls correctly into the early 90's they were connected. I remember the liftline trail on the "timberside" as they called it in its connected form being a fun high speed cruiser with lots of ridges to provide some terrain.

exactly! I have some old pictures from when i was in high school and used to ski magic and timber ridge. If i can find them, i'll scan them and put them up. the terrain was fun. lots of rollers and such. not very steep and i dont think it had any snowmaking. caught alot of sun too. the trail going over was a bitch though. it was basically flat and felt like about a 1/4 mile or so.

thanks for the info. i find this Shu-Maker Mountain to be an enigma since I can see it from the highway. for some reason, it looks like it;s being maintained and skied on but not when i pass by it. no info on the web either.
