Cannon is pretty much the last resort in the world that actually tells their snow reports like it is, and what Im reading sounds real good. However, anyone make it up there today? Upper Ravine opened up with some nice manmade whales. Whats it like up there, Im heading up tomorrow?

Not Bad from afar...

We drove past today. The front four are covered but they looked at bit scratchy. Only a few skiers on the rightmost trail. Everything was covered. They got a couple 2-4 inches today as did Bretton Woods (where we skied). It really made a significant difference in the skiing from morning to afternoon, hard to believe, I know. They were doing subtantial snow blowing tonight on the way back. It's getting real cold - it was 12F at 6pm up there. As soon as you drop out of the notch, the snow entirely disappears. If cannon is anything like BW, be very careful of death cookies when you get into the ungroomed areas. It's finally a (small) winter wonderland up there. Finally looks like winter. I think if the groomers munch things up tonight, you'll have a good day. Enjoy.

Sweet thanks man. Given the conditions this season, my death cookie skills are honed.

Of the front five -- Avalanche, Paulie's, Zoomer, Rocket and Gary's -- only Rocket and Gary's are open according to Cannon's snow conditions page. So it doesn't surprise me that most of them look a bit scratchy.

fwiw, avalanche, paulies, and zoomer were completely bare as of this past sunday so those few inches fell on grass.... just in case any one was getting any ideas ;) zoomer looked okay when i passed by sunday, gary's was 50% grass though. i guess snow making operations are working on recovery now. i follow cannon's snow and trail reports reguarly and i am really impressed with how well they handled the rough start. it can only get better really quickly from here on out. i gotta suspect the tram will finally open this weekend if they can get enough snow to open the cutback. i wondered this in another thread but damn, when was the latest the tram has ever opened for the season?

I'm getting used to skiing on snow-covered grass. It's not bad. Then again when you haven't eaten in days, any food tastes good!

I follow Cannons reports too but I'm also there every Friday thru Sunday.I live next door.Garys and RocketARE the only front trails open. They were hit hard with last weekends rain.As riverOil said, only about half the width of the trails kept their snow but they are recovering. The tram will NOT be open this weekend. They have not made any snow past the Zoomer lift yet.Talking with the mountain manager last weekend,he suggested the tram should be running by the weekend of the 20th.That would be the second latest opening I can recall in 30 years.I think it was 79-80 when nothing opened till this weekend and that was only the mid station of the Hong Kong chair.I must disagree a little with your praise for the snowmaking though.Last week I watched 4 guns blowing snow right into the trees on Lower Cannon for most of the morning. When I came in for a break I got on the Mountain manager about this.He did get right on the radio to get someone on it but why can't the skiing employees ,nevermind the snowmakers correct this? These guns were right in plain veiw under the Eagle Cliff chair near the bottom and ran like that for 3 hours.there was a good foot of snow stuck to the trees. What a waste! I'll finish by saying Cannon is my home Mt and I love like no other but it seems some things will never change with a state run area.On the positive note, they will have Upper Ravine open so we can have access to that side of the summit.OK I'm done ranting and I'm now headed to my beloved(most of the time)mountain.
