What is an idea you had to improve a ski area and/or increase skier visits, but no one thought of your genius idea and it never happened?

Back when Jiminy bought Brodie and then closed Brodie a couple of years latter I had what I thought was a great idea. It was to turn Brodie into the Northeast’s biggest terrain park. You could just run a couple of lifts, not have the expense of making snow on the whole mountain, jib nation would come running, and then skiers/riders at Jiminy wouldn’t lose terrain to terrain parks. Jiminy and Brodie are only a couple of miles apart on the same road. I seemed perfect to me.

Turn Whittier into the snowboard only, 90% expert terrain cream dream that I always think it could be when I drive by.

Increase snow making capacity on the west side of Hunter and then hold all kinds of competitions and promote it more.

Sugarbush:

I met Jesus in a dream one night and he said put a lift in slide brook....
as per His directions we are to construct a poma or a T bar so it doesnt infringe too much on the beautiful landscape. Starting from the midpoint of the Slide brook HS Quad, send the lift to the ridgeline between Castlerock and Mt. Ellen.
Our instructions are to not cut trails we are to have "Glades Only" skiing with maybe some trail blazes to mark the way back to the lift...
The Lord sayeth He likes when we have fun back in the "brook" there, but would prefer if we did not have to make the long trek or hitch hike back to the main mountain areas.

The Lord sayeth peace be unto mankind when thow with planks on their feet can do more than one or two runs per day in the slide brook....go now peace be with you...ws :-D

If they would all give me free season passes and lodging, I'd visit a lot more.

Sadly, this logic seems to be lost on most managers.

The sad reality:

The way you boost skier visits is to offer groomed intermediate terrain and lots of shopping options.

Careful, you may be stepping on Marc's ideas, there.

I'm treading lightly here..........remember, friend, in order to keep your favorite hill open so you can hammer all your private stashes and BC spots, there usually must be a mainstream offer to attract Mom & Dad & the kids for the weekend or the school vacation week, etc.

Wish that your favorite hill opens up that groomed intermediate stuff and the new village area (with shopping - "Ooooh! There's an Orvis!") on the next mountain far away from your private BC shot.....

If only there was a mountain with 1500' of vert and reliable snow near Atlantic City, right? People could fly into Newark on Hooter's Air.......

Indeed. Fine ideas to *augment* my original concept. Pun intended.

But here's the real question, do we even really need to worry about snowmaking, grooming or trail conditions at all if we have a brothel on top? Does anyone really think anybody would actually be going down?

Ahahhahha, 'nother one. I better quit while I'm ahead.

Wildcat needs to have a bump comp in mid-late april on gondi line, top-to-bottom. I can't even imagine the fun. Screw technique, whoever gets down fastest wins. The best part would be skiing the bottom where it is really narrow and always icy and bare, man that would be sweet. Don't make the moguls either, those of for sissy's, you need those really nasty icy irregular moguls for this fun event. I think they may have to have the ambulance and ACL replacements waiting in the parking lot though...

Hey, everything in its right place. When there are big wide easy groomed trails for the masses, it's easy to know which trails to avoid. My most terrifying runs are when I have to pick my way through hordes of kids and beginners to get to the lodge.

I don't care about shopping, but if it helps the bottom line, great. If some people want to shop while the lifts are turning, the slopes are that much less crowded.

Speaking of Intrawest-style base area development, I wish more places had bars with big patios and outdoor heaters at the base.

My own pet project is to put a giant climate-controlled snow dome over Chamonix and move it to Boston Harbor.

Nice.

You know, now that I've gotten better, the slow lifts I used to hate when I was a squid, are now my friends. Keeps the crowds out; give legs a chance to recover. My armchair move at any hill would be to take out the slow lifts and stick them in out of the way places on a hill that access expert terrain only. And real expert terrain --- Bumps and woods. Not groomed crap. And the lifts don't need to be a big deal at all. Even 600'-800' of vert goes long way in true expert terrain.
