We rent a ski house right near Attitash - and were up there this past weekend. Most of the snow they had made got washed away due to the rain on Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Snow guns were blazing on Thursday and Friday night - but it was still warm during the day. We skied Sunday River (love those all for one passes!)

They say they will open 4 trails on Saturday (which is ONE RUN!) We'll see!

Hey - anyone know what happened to the RSN forum for Attitash. It looks like it got shut down?!

Thanks for the responses. If you bring 3 cans to donate, you can ski attitash Saturday for $20. I'm going to pass on it, though. It'll be crouded, I bet. Right now, I'm shooting for Killington next Wednesday for my first day this season.

From someone who relocated to this area from Northern New England, trust me, DON'T BELIEVE THE BOSTON WEATHER REPORTS!!! They are so full of crap. They are not accurate at all for this area and are even worse for what they think is happening up north. If you want some good sources for Northern New England, check out the Fairbank's Museum's "Eye on the Sky Forecast" which is on VPR daily and/or the ultimate mountain weather authority, the Mount Washington Observatory.

www.mountwashington.org

They are the real deal

Also try weather radio from NH--dial 603-225-5191. These are much more reliable sources. Trust me and enjoy!

Storm varied a lot from place to place. There is snow on the ground in Jackson. But none in North Conway. Elevation played a big factor. Either way, everywhere saw some rain....most places a lot.

Attitash saw an inch at the base which is "shield of armor" snow. The summit saw 3-4. They cranked up the guns today and should be able to keep em going through the weekend.

As was said before...Sat is food drive and Demo Day. The cans go to The Dinner Bell of Conway.

Opening Weekend at Attitash - couple of thought

Ok - Just back from the Mount Washington Valley - and skied Attitash both Saturday and Sunday. Although they say 5 trails, it is basically one down from midmountain. It snowed all the way up (from after the tolls on 16) on Friday - about an inch or so. Also got a dusting last night. Saturday was one of the clearest days up there that I can remember. Today was mild - but cloudy (even some flurries).

Couple of impressions:
The Good :)
1. New signage and logo throughout the mountain
2. Many new trail signs

The not so good...(Opportunities for improvement in case anyone from Attitash reads this board:

1. Although there was only one trail open, Attitash had its "orientation" for its employees on the mountain. There were TONS of these people (at some points, more than CUSTOMERS) overtaking the mountain. VERY ANNOYING. They would all hang out along the trail, then all ski together. Would have been nice if they had saved this for either early am or later in the day.

2. The scanners for the seasons pass/tickets was a nightmare. Most of the time it didn't work (in fact, had to get another pass made!) It REALLY slows the line down. Wait till Xmas vacation week....this should be fun!

3. Speaking of passes, they changed the benefits of the Gold and Platinum pass. You were originally supposed to get 10% for Gold and 20% for Platinum off any purchase in the ski shop. Amazingly, this is now only offered "from time to time" and has been removed from the All for One pass website. NICE JOB GUYS! I won't be buying anything at the mountain this year.

4. When I asked about the discount in the store, I was told there was none this weekend - but they did it last weekend. SMART...the weekend BEFORE the mountain opens, have a sale...Who does the marketing for you guys?

All in all though it was a good weekend. I am sure Attitash will get better as the season goes on!!!!!

You can't claim that. It sounds to me like all those people who avoid talking about the weather by stating that the forecasters are wrong all the time. It's a way to worm your fat arse inside. There are so many Boston forecasters, some good and some bad, that the best way to get a good forecast would be to listen to many and make up your own mind. It used to be easy to access the Satellite pic on the web and that would be my basis for decision. However, even when I worked in Waitesfield, we had a hard time predicting what would happen at Mad River or the Bush. They would call down a report at nine a.m. and from some angles one could see the summit slopes, but I wouldn't stick my neck out with a prediction for the afternoon.

I'm not getting your reference to a worm (?). If you read my post, you can see that I follow the weather for Northern New England daily using those sources and 99 times out of 100 they are more accurate for this area.

The weather forecasting I've seen down here is not as accurate. Period. I do agree with you that a number of forecasts is the best way to go.

And if you are implying that I am a lazy insider then I take offense and urge you to read my 300 some-odd posts to get an idea of the things that I do outside.
