The Abenaki lift located on Bear Peak has been extended and a mid-station unload has been added to make travel between Attitash and Bear Peak faster. Guests can access the new Abenaki terminal through newly cut connector trails and ride the lift half way to get to the base of Bear Peak.

This is a great piece of spin. The only reason that lift was expanded was real estate.

I find the fact they bought some Prinoth's very :-o . We bought a Prinoth 12 years ago or so and it was a freakin' disaster. We STILL have a BR series groomer that we got new BEFORE we got the new Prinoth as a back-up/heavy storm unit and the Prinoth is long gone. It lasted maybe 4 years tops. Might have been 3. Our groomers run maybe 1/3 the hours per season as most normal destination resorts too. A lot of resorts all bought Prinoths around that same time and they all learned their lessons. Prinoth = bad. Prinoth parts service = even worse. They must have practically paid them to take a couple on a trial to try and get their foot back in the north american door.

I hate to say it, but after some sales, Prinoth and Bombardier (snow cats) are pretty much one in the same now. Bombi parts are supplied by Prinoth, for example (was Camoplast and before then Bombi itself).

I looked at their website to see what the Bison looked like and it looked a hell of a lot like our new plus. Is it identical?!?? Are they affiliated other than distribution agreements now?

I'm not sure offhand what the specifics are, but I'll try and look into it. I do know that Prinoth supplies Bombi parts now and that Bombardier proper sold off parts of their business in 2004.

Yeah, I knew Bombi was sold to Camoplast (that's what happend in 04) who was the builder of the tillers. Considering I can't see a difference between the looks of new Prinoth Bison and the Current Bombi plus, I'm thinking maybe Camoplast makes the Prinoth tiller too, have taken a share of Prinoth, and are allowing them to build the Plus under license or are simply exporting the Plus to Europe branded as the Bison. Bombi's there are almost as rare as Prinoth's here. That would also go to Prinoth themselves recognizing the T4 is a big piece of S$$T. All that said, I don't understand why they would bother importing Prinoth's to America if they are only really competing with themselves. Maybe they have X amount of years to stop calling bombi's bombi's and bombi's are soon going to be Prinoth's? I prefer the name Prinoth to Camoplast. No offence Camoplast, your name works for a plastics company, but sucks as the name for a groomer.

Or, instead of thinking all that up I could have just confirmed all my thoughts with a quick look at SAM. I have NO IDEA how I missed this one :

PRINOTH TAKES OVER CAMOPLAST GROOMING

SAM Magazine--Granby, Que., October 12, 2005--After just over a year under the Camoplast umbrella, the grooming division, which includes the BR 350 and the BR 180, will be bought by Prinoth, which is part of the Leitner Group.

As of November 7, Prinoth will be in charge of design, engineering, R&D, service, parts and sales, while Camoplast will do the actual manufacturing. In other words, the BR 350 and the BR 180 will be serviced by the existing regional support system as before and they will be manufactured in the same production facility.

For its part, Prinoth will be adding the BR line to its product line-up in Europe. The hope is that the takeover by Prinoth will broaden the market for the ex-Bombardier machines.

The grooming machine market now consists of Prinoth with the BR line and PistenBully. There are smaller manufacturers, such as Ohara, but most of the worldwide orders go to Prinoth, BR and PistenBully.

Given that, I'm thinking that maybe Bombi is now gone from the North American market and all the 2008 groomers are going to be known as Prinoth's??? That's sad. Bombardier was a legend, made a good product, and are now in the hands of the company that essentially made junk. I hope they don't manage to screw up Bombi's designs!

Kind of suprised that Peaks/Attitash bought the Prinoth's in the first place since they went Pisten Bulley at Mount Snow. You'd think that they might want to try and keep it all in the same family for purchasing power/continuity.

It was though pretty neat last march to see at the NSAA East show at Mount Snow both the Bison and the PB600 side by side. Two really neat machines to watch move some snow!

Attitash has all bombis anyways so staying with the same product line saves having to stock another whole series of parts. I believe that Prinoth is using the bombi machine and just changing the name.

Yup, Bombi sold off that part of their conglomerate about a year ago to prinoth.

Mount Snow was all Bombi, courtesy of ASC starting with the old "stealth cat" days, but over the last 3 or so seasons have been buying only PB's and now operate roughly a 50/50 mix of PB's and Bombi's. (A couple of park bulley's, a 200 and now a new 600 set to arrive soon), there winch cat is still a Bombi.

Either way, nice machines, although I will confess that I like the red PB paint esthetically over that black/silver paint scheme that prinoth put on the bison, but to each and evry their own :)

This is a great piece of spin. The only reason that lift was expanded was real estate.

uhhh not following you. I see no spin at all. It says Unload added to access Bear better, not the lift extended for that reason. There are multiple articles saying the lift was extended solely for the condos down there.

Actually it does say that the lift was extended to expedite travel between Attitash and Bear Peak.

The Abenaki lift located on Bear Peak has been extended and a mid-station unload has been added to make travel between Attitash and Bear Peak faster.

The article makes no reference to real estate, despite the fact that real estate is the only reason the lift was extended. It really isnt a point worth debating, I was just pointing out the fact that the Attitash team found a way to spin a real estate investment into an investment aimed at improving the ski experience.

I'm only guessing here but probably the midstation is the original loading station. If that is the case, it is a long, flat taverse to Bear Peak from there. The only reason I ever rode that lift was to break up the traverse from Attitash to Bear Peak.

Yeah if the place is empty the only reason to use that lift is to get between the areas but when the two hsq's are mobbed the abenaki is the place to be. They do need to have natural snow though to make that area enjoyable.
