They wait until most of it melts but will plow the drifts, it adds to the ride in the vans.....

The traverse at "Five mile hill" generally fills in completely with snow and generally requires quite a bit of regrading and repair.

still looks good after that rain 2day... now for the weekend i hope thats not rain... i wish it was nice out this weekend, i really wanna go to wildcat for closing day.

I was there on Friday 4/22...outstanding Spring day, sweet conditions. My first time at Wildcat. Spent most of the day on the remaining bump run next to/under the quad. The whole time my son David and I were tearing it up I was worrying that the rain was going to spoil our attempt at hiking up to Tucks.

Then the rain came. Word had it that Wildcat was done on Friday if it rained, and I went by on Saturday on my way to Pinkham and the lifts were closed. So I guess we got the last of Wildcat.

Unfortunately, the rain killed our attempt at Tucks. It wasn't raining that hard (the hard rain held off until Sunday), but it was cold and, worse, Mt. Washington was socked in with fog. It wasn't the time to bring my 11 year old son up for his first hike/ski. So, we went back to the hotel and hit the pool, hot tub, and spa.

Sunday was an option if it cleared up, but it was pouring so we packed up and hit the road. We didn't score this time with Tucks, but it was the first time I had the whole family up there and everyone really enjoyed it. Stayed at the Royalty Inn; my 2 younger sons loved the indoor pool, my wife enjoyed a nice massage and hot tub, and my oldest son and I got to ski that one sweet day on Friday. Now the best part...

We're going to try again on the weekend of May 7 or 14. Just need some good weather!

I was trying to find some pics online of what mt washington looks like in early may but i couldnt find any. JimG, sorry for the weather knocking out your shot at tucks, but at the same time, i am glad to hear i didn't pass by a chance by staying home this past weekend. it looked like a no go all week, and then eastern MA hardly got any rain and the sun came out sunday afternoon. i was starting to kick myself yesterday, but feel much better now.

Steve, you missed nothing. Friday was the day to hike the ravine, but David wanted to ski some lift served terrain before trying to ski at Tucks. Wildcat was great, but I spent all day looking over at the ravine and seeing how great it was. Kept thinking we should have forgotten about sleep and hiked up even if we were exhausted. By Saturday the weather went foul and it was all over.

My attitude this trip was so different knowing I was in charge of my son's safety. I have to admit I was tired at 6am on Friday and would not have been in top physical condition for the hike/ski at Tucks. Skiing at Wildcat was a good option, and David felt good after a day on skis. He was more dissappointed than me we couldn't go to Tucks. He got a small taste looking over at it from Wildcat and now wants more.

So we try again in 2-3 weeks. Good things come to those who wait. Right now, we're looking at a return attempt on 5/7, 5/14 if the weather dictates. Who knows, you and I might still get to make a few turns before it's over this season.
