That is a shame...all 3 of my boys have been there and they always loved going.

I'll have to bring them all back for the last hurrah.

That's a shame. We wanted to go there with our daughter, I guess we better get to it before it's too late.

Read about this elsewhere. Really is a bummer. I went there as a kid, and had hoped to bring my daughter there.

Damn shame that many of these great, small, family owned places are disappearing.

The WalMartization of America. :puke:

The Moms and Pops are getting forced out so the fat cats can make their big salaries selling crap.

The biggest joke is that our economy depends on small business to survive. So, once the fat cats are done cannibalizing and killing off small business, the consumer market they depend on won't be able to buy their cheap crap anymore. That's when they'll get theirs.

I'm looking forward to it.

I won't go to Walmart...I hate that place.

Owch .... I was just thinking about that today when Dave mentioned he was bringing his kids to the long island game farm. I've had some good times up there too. Sad.

I too went there as a kid when my family would vacation in the 'skills. though it was back in the '80s the last time i went.

Its too bad my kids wont see it. though I dont blame wal-mart, i blame ourselves because of the litigiuos society in which we live. Ms. Schultz pointed out that the "Straw that broke the camels back" was the states new regulation on her "Splash-Pad". theres a problem in America where we (probably not those on this board though) sue for any mistake we make on anyone elses property, its been engrained into the nations psyche that we should sue to get "ours".

What this has to do with Wal-Mart, i dont know, (though as a business owner im not protecting them in anyway shape of form-please dont misconstrue devils advocacy for support of sam walton and the evil walton empire) Ms. Schultz's park is shutting down because of new state regulations that probably forces her to buy more insurance than she can afford. Its sad though that in this day in age anything public has to be insured up the wazzoo (I personally blame lawmakers and Lobbyists) Though im curious to know why she could not dismantle the "Water-Pad" and continue to run the game farm without it, and possibly avoid the legal wrangling she would endure to keep the Water-pad.

all in all it is a catskill Icon that we will only be able to tell our children about...though on the brightside, they are auctioning off animals...what do you think a peacock goes for these days?...ws

I think Walmart got in there because we were bemonaing the loss of small family owned businesses. It is interesting that that sorrow translated so easily into hatred for Walmart. Even you referred to them as evil.

This is something the marketing wizards there might want to examine and respond to.

You have to admit that Walmart has lead to the demise of many small businesses.

I can think of no other single company that has done this more...I cant even think of one close...

I too find it funny how quickly others deem them "evil" too....should make Walmart rethink strategy, but why...even if we all think they're "evil" somone people still shop there...its not worth it to me for the few bucks i might save. In reality that savings is only percieved anyway as what you "Saved" on is inferior product.

Man sorry..I could go on and on ...

I'm not defender of WalMart, though I do stand in awe of them. As a business they ahve done an amazing job. As a corporate citizen, not so good. They've realized it, but it's going to take some serious work to fix their reputation.

It can be argued, and fairly successfuly, that closing family businesses is not a bad thing, economically speaking. Unfortunately, it's like arguing that kids with Down's Syndrome should be euthanized, evolutionarily speaking. Really, when was the last time you heard the employees of a mom-and-pop shop praise the health care benefits, chances for promotion, and profit sharing palns? WallyWorld may not have great benefits, but there are some, and it may be tought to move up, but it is possible (and their stock plan rocks, except for the lack of diversification).

It's a damn shame what happened to that goat, though.

I'm biting my tongue.

There is no way that closing family businesses is good for our economy. I work for a small family business and I get better health coverage, vacation, incentives, profit sharing, and upward mobility than many large corporate employees do. Beside, for really small Mom and Pop operations, the ones Walmart really hurts, there are only 2 employees, Mom and Pop.

Working for Walmart is like being sent to the Gulag.

I didn't say it was a good argument, or one that I particularly enjoy, but it can be done. Love them or hate them, WalMart has done some pretty amazing things, both good and bad.

Sorry but I fail to see anything "amazing" about what walmart has done, unless you consider giving us crappy product and putting small business out of business amazing...

I'd like to hear what you consider "amazing" about anything WalMart's done...

totally not trying to provoke anything but discussion....thanks :D
