Date(s) Skied: 1/13/2009 (Night) - 4:15 to 7:00 p.m.
Resort or Ski Area: Berkshire East - Charlemont, MA
Conditions: Packed Powder, Machine Groomed
Trip Report: Just a quick report of the few hours I spent tonight skiing while my 16-year old daughter raced for her high school race team. I got one run in on Grizzly before it got dark & before my daughter's GS race. Grizzly was ungroomed & the snow was pretty good. A few bumps & piles of crud along the sides. Then I watched my daughter race which is always fun.
The rest of my night was spent on the lit-up trails that were mostly groomed (Competition, Flying Cloud & Big Chief). Generally, conditions are good after last weekend's snow. There's plenty of coverage and I didn't run into, or otherwise see, any rocks or exposed hazards. It's not powder conditions, however. They need more snow from this week's clippers to make it truly soft & bountiful all over.
Run of the day (night) for me was Flying Cloud. There were soft powdery bumps on skiers right, under the chair. The rest of the trail was all groomed out. I seemed to be the only person skiing this trail all night as I was always alone on the trail & I did not see anyone skiing it from the chair. A lot of racers & groomer skiers there tonight so not a big surprise. I hit this trail 3 times, more than any other run.
The groomers were also fun & I did not run into any major patches of ice. It's always fun to get up some speed & do some turning. I skied on both my powder boards & my midfats on the groomers & the soft bumps on Flying Cloud. All-in-all a lot of fun tonight. Sorry, no pics as I forgot my camera & it was fairly dark so they wouldn't have had great resolution.
