i know, many of you don't care for the sport.

Wife sat down, surfed the TV channels and stopped on Field of Dreams. She declared it as the best baseball movie ever.

it is a great movie but i don't think i'd call it the best baseball movie ever.

The Natural and Bull Durham i think are better. Granted FoD is about the LOVE of baseball rather than the actual playing but still . ..

You shouldn't have to a baseball person to like movie that happens to about it. I really liked The Natural probably my favorite.

Gotta concur with The Natural although the book is better with a way different ending for Hobbs.

Can't over look Major League though.

When I was a kid, Dad brought home a VHS "copy" of the Natural. I guess it's a little longer then the 2hrs the "high quality" sp mode allowed for as the tape ended and began rewinding just before the epic light smashing ending. Dad must have corrected that situation cause I recall watching the ending the following weekend. Just for that The Natural will always have a special place in my heart.

I thought Money Ball was just a 2 star movie at best. Give it a few years and it probably will not even make the lists.

I acknowledge its talky for a baseball film but I thought Moneyball was excellent.

I love baseball and baseball movies. I agree on most of the movies on this list but how can you include Fever Pitch? I'm a Red Sox fan and I thought that movie was horrible!

How can they not include Major League and Sandlot.

Is it me or do other men start tearing up at the end of Field of Dreams when Ray Kinsella and the ghost of his dad play catch? And, yes, Field of Dreams is my personal number one.

Not top 10 material but recently saw "Trouble with the curve" with Clint Eastwood and enjoyed it. A bit slow at times but cool story

Has to be top 10. You know what they say about "best of" lists...

This is my ranking.

1. Bull Durham
2. Field of Dreams
3. A League of Their Own
4. The Rookie
5. Major League
6. Moneyball
7. The Natural

Slap Shot is better than any of them but that's a hockey movie.

Turns me into an absolute blubbering fool. I've gotten to the point where I just skip that whole scene because I don't feel like losing it for 1000th time.....

Surprised no one has mentioned 8 Men Out. I know it's more about off the field stuff, but that scandal and the fall out from it is the reason there is a commissioner and rules against gambling. It is directly related to keeping the all-time hits leader out of the Hall of Fame.

And much love for The Sandlot. Great reminder that it's a kids game and should be all about having fun.

I'm surprised Eight Men Out isn't on the list...say it ain't so! Admittedly, it appeals to seroius baseball fans, but it effectively portrays one of the saddest chapters of professional sports.
For Mr Sayles [director], whose idealism has never been more affecting or apparent than it is in this story of boyish enthusiasm gone bad in an all too grown-up world, Eight Men Out represents a home run. -J Maslin
