Wrong. Boarders make perfectly fine bumps. Here's the secret: when boarders sit in the middle of the trail, if they're nicely spaced out (often the case), you just skid gently into their backside, pivot, and jam your tips around their front; slide down to the next boarder and repeat. Focus two or three boarders down the trail, and you'll develop a good rhythm.

[/JOKE]

I have known boarders that are very good in bumps but...... why are the bumps soooo good at Taos?

How come no one has mentioned Sunday River. I'm not big on skiing moguls, but it seems to me that Sunday River has some pretty decent bumps, especially off of White Heat. 3-D is always full of moguls, as well.

Sunday River is okay for bumps. Decent lift line bump runs for sure, Agony is pretty sweet. White Hype, not so much. Conditions can be teh suck sometimes though depending upon recent weather systems. Northern Greens from Killington northward definitely have the edge on conditions and natural snow which are helpful for good bumps.

I second or third the post about Sunapee and Okemo. They are in central NH and central Vermont respectively. About 2.5 to 3 hrs from metro west. These guys are aggressive make snow and will usually seed a bump field early and they seed them several trails each with various pitches. These places have a freestyle team and will take care of the bumps.

Another place to keep in mind is Wachusetts in MA, they only seed one trail now, sometimes the bumps are widely spaced and other times they have some nice troughs. Kind of hit and miss depending how it gets skied after seeding. But its convenient in terms of travel time.

I remember you posting some pics of sunapee's seeded run. looked real nice. I picked up a $20 off coupon good at either sunapee or okemo. May have to give sunapee a shot this year.

I've found Wachusett's bumps to be fun and skiable only maybe 15% of the time. They seed a short field on 10th Mountain and occasionally on Hitchcock maybe? I don't know, I wish they'd let an entire trail bump up and then maybe start a freestyle team there. Smith is steep enough to be a pretty nice bump run. Still mellow by absolute terms, but it would be a good trail.

Killington can have some great bumps even without large amounts of natural snow, or terrible ones, it all depends on what/when they groom. Almost all of the natural snow trails will develop good bumps if they get snow.

Give me a heads up, I might be able to hook up with you. I going to have a crazy schedule this season. It looks like sat will be my only consistent free day.

They use smith for the race course, I know they close it to the general public during Sunday mornings. I remember three to four years ago when MA had more natural snow than central NH, the bumps on 10th was nice. With little natural snow, that field gets beaten up really fast.

Wachusett's bumps?
Ok.
I have found the bumps at Mt. Southington to be bar none the best next to their bar.

Southington is the only ski area in the U. S. where you can cross the road from the parking lot and be standing on someone's front lawn.
