I'd also say Stowe if you can swing it. My girlfriend and I recently stayed at the Green Mountain Inn and loved it. She loved Stowe and doesn't ski or ride.

Jackson, NH, is about as picturesque as it gets. Wildcat and Attitash are very close, and other places are within reason.

It all depends on what your top priority is, though...

Ragged and Gunstock seem up your alley.

Maybe Cranmore and the other 5 ski resorts in that area (wildcat, Black, King Pine, Attitash and Shawnee)

I'd have to vote for Mad River Valley for the coziest ski experience. The area is classic Vermont at its best, lots of B and B's. And you got Sugarbush, Mt Ellen (Sugarbush North) and Mad River Glen within minutes.

Wait for more snow. This is my recommendation if you want to be able to ski epic terrain as well.

Alternately, I'm planning a couple days over at Bolton Valley with my girl this winter/spring. Really low key and plenty of manageable terrain for learning skiers.

I'm biased towards north/central Vermont for the cozy factor. There are some very cozy towns around Bromley/Magic/Stratton as well.

Edit: IMO if you really want to blow her socks off.. take her to Lake Placid. Most romantic spot in the Northeast in the winter. That's one man's opinion!

I like the North Conway are for some nice B & B's. There are also a number of skiing options as well with Cranmore, Attitash, Shawnee Peak, Black Mountain etc. A lot depends on how much you want to spend on where you stay and where you ski. Mount Washington Hotel is nice to and there is Bretton Woods. The type of skiing makes all the difference in the world as well! As mentioned earlier there are options in VT like around Okemo too!

This would be my choice. Cool hotel and resort (the sports club has a beautiful pool).

All the heart shaped and Champagne glass shaped tubs are gone from Pocono's. Mt Airy Lodge has been totally rebuilt as a casino. The new thing there is the waterpark/hotel. Great Wolf Lodge is about to be joined by a new one up by the 940/380 interchange (taking out the west golf course at Pocono Manor) and the new 450 room Hotel being built at Camelback. While I've enjoyed having the Pokes in the backyard I've never found them to be particularly romantic.

If the steepness of the skiing is not a driving force, the Mt Washington hotel and BW is a great choice. What you do not have is a lot of commerce/shopping available. If being outside in beautiful mtns, having great food and lodging and being at a hill that groms blues to perfection is what you want then you will be thrilled.

Want to spend less and have a more earthy/chewy experience? Go to the AMC lodge at Crawford Notch- same basic locale, but a way different vibe. Go skiing one day and explore the winter hiking another?

We love both the hotel and the lodge. In either place you will find wonderful staff and a pretty calm atmosphere

HAVE FUN

My wife and I did the same post new years eve... pretty good rate and great location. Its the prototypical quaint VT Inn.. onsite restaurant is good and plenty to do nearby. While my wife skis, we had a high of -5 day in the mix where I sent her to the spa (topnotch) as a Christmas present. Was definitely the right move

All mentioned are good. Think ALL Saturdays & Sundays are kind of crowded Everywhere...except for Sugarloaf. Once you get up there(SL/Saddleback) you can find pretty good snow(often a little ice/wind), pitch, and food, but a little closer is Sunday River. Haven't shopped for dining down around Bethel lately but much less traffic(auto/human) anywhere in Maine. Any Fridays and/or Mondays are less crowded at either SR or SL. Near SR, Rostay Inn. Kathy & Al keep a nice operation, pretty good rates...especially any weekeday, but for weekends, like everywhere...need to reserve ahead.

The Red Sleigh Inn in Lincoln, NH is perfect. Super quaint, the owners are so nice and Lincoln is close to Cannon. (I'd personally skip Loon) Some small restaurants in town and the Woodstock Brewery is right down the road which has decent grub and good beer. There isn't much of a nightlife thing going on so if that is important to you, I'd skip it for somewhere else. The Red Sleigh is a bed and breakfast and the hosts do a fantastic job keeping you full. (the food is spot on)

If you want some off hill options as well as a few options for skiing I'd vote for the Conway area, plenty of places to eat/drink(Red Parka!!!). Plus you have a bunch of areas for skiing, wildcat, attitash, black, cranmore, and bretton woods is not that far of a drive. Figure out the best conditions and go there, you can even do wildcat and attitash in the same day on the same ticket.
