My favorite ski area food experiences:

Shepard's pie - Saddleback
Italian food - Mountain Creek south base lodge, real table linen and ceramic plates when they first opened (1998-1999 season).

Out West:

Alpenglow Stubai - Keystone
Keystone Ranch - Keystone
Cascade Dining Room - Timberline Lodge
Christine's At Blackomb - my keyboard is getting wet thinking about this place.

Deer Valley, without a doubt!

While we weren't that impressed with DV overall, we ate lunch at the Silver Lake Lodge. Really spectacular! Without question the best food I've had at a resort in the US. Pricey, but we didn't feel ripped off. Can't really think of any memorable food at ski areas in the East though the burgers at Pats are pretty dang good. I've thought the food at Bretton Woods was pretty good too. I love Stowe but have been real dissappointed by the food at the resort -- expensive and mediocre at best.

I bring my own food. One week out west we ate for the whole week for about 30 bucks. In contrast, at Squaw Valley we spen 56 bucks for lunch for 3 people. Hunter has good Burritos once in a while, and the mac and cheese is pretty good.

A mountain burger or the "black and bleu" burger at Christiansen's at Jiminy Peak is great. Legit bar/grill food. It's like $8 with a soda.

The Caesar and Grilled Chicken Caesar Salads at Pine Ridge. Also, the food in the new restaurant upstars is really good!

Real Resorts, I had a great Mushroom Ravioli at the Mansfield lodge at Stowe, the rest of the food I had there was just ok.

Cheese and crackers from my pack, or, perhaps, Linguica on the patrol grill, or, the grill on the Sledhauler-hauler's tailgate.

Poutine (basically, cheese fries with gravy) at Jay Peak. Worth the trip!

Why go through the trouble?

Why not just let the frier fat congeal around the frech fries and then eat them?

That would essentially be the same thing.

I really like the food at Babe's bar at Loon. Nice sandwiches and great chowders, Nachos are good. No waiting in lines to get it and reasonably priced.

The Mushroom at Sugarbush South was great. There won't be any food service this next season though. I'm looking forward to the Castlerock Bar/Grill.
