Every Year I get one good western trip-

This year we're hitting a region I've never skied before-so I'm excited: We're Flying into Spokane, WA (flights were 240.oo round trip from hartford btw!!), A we're going to drive North to ski Red Mountain and WhiteWater BC!! If time and inclination permits we'll swing back through Northern Idaho and check out Schweitzer and Possibly Silver as well! It's an early trip this year-January 11-19, 2009-so there's always a weather gamble-but then again, I've been skunked in February and pounded in december in other past western trips so you never know!

Who else has a trip planned-where you going? Why'd you pick it?

Right off the Northwest Airlines web site-1 stop in Minneapolis...it went up about 50.00 last week-still pretty cheap-it's not a typical ski destination.

Checked flights again today... prices have come down since the last time I checked back to what I paid this year. Still hoping to get out to A-basin for Mother's Day weekend 2009 with Brian and Trekchick. $304 RT with taxes (per person, Bradley-Denver w/1 stop, NWA) as of this morning... Have to see how our finances are after doing our tax return in February, though, before making any definite decisions. And we need someone to watch the kids...

Colorado - Summit County and Vail/BC. Meeting up with my buddy who lives in Denver and using his pass discounts at several places. Also just ordered 5 coupons on EBAY (LOVE EBAY!) for Copper for $50 tickets. $219 Flight Non-Stop Phili - Denver on Frontier! I had to double and triple check to make sure I was entering the right info!

In the east: Killington, and SR.
Out west: Probably 5 days in Tahoe. At least 3 of those at Kirkwood.

liam, If I were you I would pass on the Schwitzer trip.
Why?
The southern selkerks snow is about as wet as one will find in the upper pan handle of Idaho.
I spent 19 days romping around north western Montana Truner mtn. ect and UP PH ID 3 days at Switzer one day og 20+ inches of fluff and two days of fresh wet cement!
Sure they get massive amounts of snow but the region is known as a"Banana Belt" when it comes to winter storms.(Wet Snow mixed with NCP).
If you head east on I-90 silver mtn can be fun mid week but I would not go out of my way to ski there.
Red is a blast and there are lots of BC places in the Nancy Green Forest!
Enjoy the Canada sellkirks but pass on the US selkerks.

Me? I am heading down to Bridger Bowl!
The snow there holds less water and ya cant beat the prices.
second choice is Mt Baker...again!!!

So tempted to do the mogulskiing.net Mary Jane Mogul Tour. ~$280 RT airfare.

But definately want to do a Mogul Logic weeklong camp at Blackcomb over the summer. That's probably what I'll end up with.

Yo man, went to Red last Feb and it was UNREAL!!!!
That place kicks a$$, I mean, they hadent a storm for about 2 weeks when we got there and we still had fresh fluffy tracks in the woods consistantly!
Buckle your safety belt and head into the Coolers for a SICK ride, the first one is the hairiest and the last is the easiest of them (still nuts tho).
Also, there is easy access to Mt Roberts (about a 30-40 min hike) which dumps you right out at the paradise chair. Even the woods before Roberts are great.
There is a B.C. guide station at the base of granite, HIGHLY reccomended!
If you go, see if they can get you out to record ridge, it will put you in awesome terrain and dump you out at the woods that end up at the paradise chair.
So much endless terrain, be carefull though, it is no joke out there.
If you do hook up with the B.C. guides out there, and want to get into some blow your mind terrain, ask them about touring off of Kootenay pass, you will never forget it.
Whitewater has great tress but it was icy when we got there so I mostly saw the bar there.
Man, i'm getting excited for you, please, please, post a trip report when you get back.

Jackson Hole Recommendations

We're doing Jackson Hole toward the end of February. I'd be interested in some recommendations. I think for most of us on the trip is a first visit and for those it isn't they haven't been in a while.
