We're doing Jackson Hole toward the end of February. I'd be interested in some recommendations. I think for most of us on the trip is a first visit and for those it isn't they haven't been in a while.

Feel free to PM me if you're interested in any lodging, skiing and dining recommendations at Jackson Hole..

Where to stay? Unless your staying at the village and not planning on going out too much you will be traveling. Car not a necessity but desirable. I like staying staying around the swim club area - Sleeping Indian, Nez Pierce, Rondevious, etc. condos. A couple of miles from the mtn. is the Racquet Club complex. Like staying there too. In town, about 15 miles from the mtn., there is a myriad number of option for you from pricey hotels to cheap motels to condos. Some people like to stay at Snow King resort. NIGHT SKIING!! There are lots and lots of restaurants.

Where to ski? Depends on what type of skier you are and the weather. The ski area is basically eastern orientated (read - sun affected). So aspect really comes into play there. Especially later in the season. If you want to experience the back country, the resort runs some excellent guide programs.

If you'd like more specific recommendations we would have start a new thread.

My big mtn. plans for this year are to do it all again. Hit the big dumps at Stowe and/or Jay with a possibly MRG midweek powder frenzy.

For out west - keep an eye on the storm tracks and go where ever it's happening. Would really like to get back out to intior B.C. for some cat/heli skiing.

I guess I'm more interested in food and entertainment recommendations. Obviously where and when we ski will be based on conditions, which will be whatever we get. PM if you prefer.

Thanks,

Clark

Want to see some "local" craziness - I highly recommend the bar at the Virginian downtown. The antithesis of touristy and the best dive bar. Want touristy - million dollar cowboy saloon or something er other.... yuk.

I too will be hitting Whistler; $625 USD per person in a two bedroom at Legends + $250pp on flights into Seattle and back (sucks the exchange rate was .95 at booking and is now .75?). This trip turns out to be $500 cheaper than Jackson Hole. Guaranteed it will rain or be 70 degrees and sunny with wet cement to ski on. This is the third attempt at "western" skiing and should prove if I am truly cursed.

Every Year I get one good western trip-

This year we're hitting a region I've never skied before-so I'm excited: We're Flying into Spokane, WA (flights were 240.oo round trip from hartford btw!!), A we're going to drive North to ski Red Mountain and WhiteWater BC!! If time and inclination permits we'll swing back through Northern Idaho and check out Schweitzer and Possibly Silver as well! It's an early trip this year-January 11-19, 2009-so there's always a weather gamble-but then again, I've been skunked in February and pounded in december in other past western trips so you never know!

Who else has a trip planned-where you going? Why'd you pick it?

Liam

Not stopping at Mt. Baker? $40 lift tickets can't be beat for some entertaining terrain, and if you're lucky and its clear (or not so lucky as its not snowing in that case) you'll have some of the best scenery anywhere in the world. Cheap stays can be found in Glacier WA if you do some searching. Its an hour off the 5 east of Bellingham, but absolutely worth it.

Colorado - Summit County and Vail/BC. Meeting up with my buddy who lives in Denver and using his pass discounts at several places.

Doing the same thing in March or April. Haven't booked yet.

Nice price on the air but it's like a 5hr drive from Seattle plus you need to rent a car. Fly into Vancouver and shuttle up. Once you're there you won't need a car at all. The difference in condos between Jackson and Whistler will become apparent. Unless you're Japanese you're going to feel claustrophobic at Whistler. And don't bum out if it's raining half way up the mountian. That only means it's dumping up higher. With over 5k of vert. there are usually 3 differant weather zones. Get some FAT skis for the "thick white chile".

Third times a charm they say.

Ask around and get some western advice and you won't get skunked. It may cost a little more coin but you've experienced (by your own account) the alternative. A trip out west should be the epitome of skiing. No reason for anything else with a little planning and knowledge.

Whistler/BC. Yea I know I said that last season to, but the only opportunity I could have gone was December, which I felt was too early in the season for a big mountain trip

I'm gonna go to Mammoth several times as well, but I don't consider that big mountain because it is only 7 hours away.
Would look to drive north for a couple more hours and hit tahoe, and hit up a couple of the resorts in there.
