I guess one could argue that a few ski areas like Attitash and Mount Snow have already done this to test their new systems, but I'm talking about the test patch photo op of snow Killington used to do once it gets cold enough. Maybe Sugarloaf? Mount Snow? Sugarbush?

Is it worth doing anytime soon? The rockies certainly have the weather to hold some snow about 8,000 feet, but i can't imagine anywhere on the EC that can hold the snow... maybe Sugarloaf though for the first.

The Killington test patches were never meant to last. They were meant as a marketing gimmick to demonstrate "one of the world's most powerful snowmaking systems." You know, the "Beast of the East," home of the "longest, steepest bump run." Those days of branding may very well be over.

The island of misfit toys.
Still no significant cold in the forecast. Looks like it may drop to the freezing level, or just slightly below, in northern Vt and western Maine this Friday and Saturday. But that is about it.

If it wasn't thought about before it is now... It's all about the money! They know people will come no matter what whether they show off their guns early or not... promotions and photoshop certainly provide the alternate to what they had to physically do.

I'd like to see Mount Snow blow a patch when it gets cold enough... To test... er uh... show off their new guns...
