Kayaks, like bicycles, are smaller in comparison to other “prevailing” vehicles. So it’s easy to be missed. When I drive around in my car, I‘m acutely aware how insignificant a cyclist (or someone walking along the road) looks. It barely register! Add to that, the low profile of kayaks, coupled with the deck geometry of some boats, it’s even more difficult for boaters to see kayaks. I did some sailing before becoming a kayaker. I‘m familiar with the different perspective.

On a road, the pattern of traffic is pretty obvious. On water, it’s much less so. In fact, on the coast, boats can come from all direction. With a bit of swell, it’s practically impossible for motor boats to see a kayak. It’s entirely up to the kayaker to anticipate where the boats are going and stay out of the way. Compare to that, big lakes are at least more predictable. They are either coming from a dock or a popular anchor spot, or going to a dock/popular anchor.

Same. Thought it was me. I have had some great days on Winni this spring and tried on a few occasions to post them in this thread, but get the same error.

I know Nick migrated the forums to a new host recently. Maybe that has something to do with it.

Know this is 2024 thread but 2025 season is coming to a close very soon. As always each season is different from the last one. This one of course started wet, got hot and now is ending very cool. Water was beautiful mid summer has cooled off big time with some night time temperatures in the 40s Even with the cool temps we have had little rain since early July and the water levels are dropping that’s the main reason she will coming out early this year

Second year in a row the season will end early for many. Winnipesaukee is 18" below full, which is more typical of November. Last year it was this low in early October.

Our marina kicks us out Columbus Day. It used to be November 1st, but they're in the middle of a multi year expansion and do the dredging in November and December. If I had the option, I'd leave my boat in until December 1st. Every year we get 75 degree Saturdays in November and I wish we were still out there. Still lots of fun to take a cruise and grab lunch somewhere even after the swimming season is dine.

I’ve always wanted the boat winterized and put away by Halloween. Currently the water is about 18 inches down and it’s not a draw down year where they pull it down extra to let people work on their docks. Not that bummed we have to pull it though as it will open the opportunity to do some other things like go to the Jersey Shore which is still beautiful in September only without the summer crowds, biking and of course the never ending "Honey do list" . The other thing I like is that the boat is now over 25 years old and while in good shape there are some ticky tacky things that need to be repaired like an ignition switch, a speaker replaced and courtesy, dashboard and even Nav lighting that I want looked at before storage.

FInal post of the season as the Lake season really came to a close on Sunday with the closing of the Tiki Bar @ the J House. Boat has been out for a couple of weeks but we did take a nice ride with friends then over to the party and sunset on the deck. Want to salute the Captain of the Miss Lotta, the cruise boat on Lake Hopatcong, for bringing her to the party.



Normally she just cruises by but Sunday, she came on in to watch the band a little, much to the entertainment of the crowd. A nice touch to the end of the season.

Crazy good boating day today on Winnipesaukee. Anchored right off Carey Beach in Winter Harbor and enjoyed swimming in 70 degree water.

One more weekend to go. Damn quitters. It is like a ski mountain closing on April 1st to end boating season now. I'd keep going until Thanksgiving if the marina allowed me to

It’s very much like the ending of ski season. You tend to go longer than me as I like to have it put away by Halloween. But the lake level dropped and we did pull early this year. In our case like the 3rd week in March. Got a couple of minor things I want the marina to fix before winter so I hope they are in the process of doing those things.

Beautiful weekend though. We took a ride to the Jersey shore stuck our feet in the water which was still really nice and had a sea food meal.

BTW love that Winter Harbor area on Winni. We dropped anchor in there as well when we were there
