On topic, seems to me if your child's life is seriously affected by a comment made by an athlete (or anyone else but you, for that matter), then you have failed in your job as a parent much more than they have failed as a role model.

Damn Straight!

It certainly does...it made me realize that my wife and I are my kids biggest role models, and always will be. As long as I do my job well, I have nothing to worry about.
.

Nothing huh...good luck with that.

I've been very lucky with my kids so far, but I now alot of good parents who havn't had the same results.

Nothing is a big word, you're right.

"I don't have too much to worry about" would be better.

And the only reason I say it is because I have good kids who really do listen to us. They'd have to deal with their mom if they didn't  .

Good kids make parents look good. And like I said earlier, even the best parents have to deal with their kid's screw ups and failures. Nobody is perfect.

who cares about kids and role models... what about adults that think like kids!? after all, young kids can't exactly down a six pack in the parking lot or throw back a half dozen pints at lunch and try to play human slalom in the afternoon. i am more concerned with those of our species that are older than their intelligence might indicate thinking bode is the man for advocating skiing drunk. and whether bode actually IS advocating skiing drunk does not matter. the media may be playing up his words, but you gotta be responsible when talking to the media because the media sure isn't going to be responsible when they have advertisers to get money from and subscriptions to sell.

i really dig bode and having a kick ass USA ski team. it's been a while. but could do without this type of comment. i didn't even mind the doping being bad comments (though i HIGHLY disagree), but this type of comment only encourages a not so great aspect of the skiing population.

US Team coaches are going to be talking to Bode about it, it would appear. I did watch the interview last night, and I think Bode came off reasonably well-spoken but quirky overall. He definitely said what the press release says he said, and I don't think it was taken particularly far out of context. It definitely wasn't the focal point of the interview, though.

Just heard on the radio at 5:30 AM this morning that a rep from the FIS in America (I think, still groggy) is gonna visit Bode and Talk to him. Apparently they think he's giving out a black eye.

He's probably going to recommend that he takes up snowboarding... now that would be a hoot.

Saw on NESN this morning that Bode is suing CBS for putting a libelous spin on the interview. They had a headline about Bode skiing drunk and they changed it the other day to him not caring about the Olympics.

Also, I think his comments were more about partying hard the night before and not being completely sober by the morning than drinking before the race. If that is the case, I was there a couple mornings in college.

Believe it or not, Jean Claude Killy is a snowboarder now...

I found his comment about money interesting. He doesn't seem to care that much about it-or so he says. He should then hook up with a good cause that needs lots of money that he cares about, give most of his away and play hard to feed the cause. Just my $0.02. Take a look at how he grew up-very minimalistic. That explains alot. If I had to run out to an outhouse in Franconia in the winter, I'd have strong legs too!

Though he performs well as an athlete, he seems to function like an artist.

This is an excellent observation.

And it's applicable to prodigies in all walks of life.

Doesn't it seem like most real men of genius are a bit wacky?

Perhaps. Outside of the norm for certain. I guess that defines exceptional.

I'm just glad we have a new state hero.
