I think this is great. All we see are ski racers with sqeaky clean images, Picabo Street comes to mind. It's about time we get one with some attitude that is going to stir up some controversy, it creates excitement not only around him, but around the sport itself. Who says the snowboarders have to be the bad boys? Maybe Bode will start hanging out with Paris Hilton or something and end up in a...uhh... video! LOL...

LOL...thinking of kicking the best skier in the world off the team for being a non-conformist. We'll take him here in Canada. I can't believe you guys are kicking around beer commercials and havn't come out with the fact that the new battle cry of the USST should be "It's Miller Time!!!"

That's why its called Apres Ski

Apres - French word meaning After

Simple. 8)

What do you call the barflies who are there from 11:00am on? Apres-Breakfast?

Seriously, I see the bar fill up starting at that time. That constant image does alot more damage to a kid's perception of society than anything Bode Miller says.

People are at the hill at 11am ? I don't get there till atleast 1 due to being out drinking till 6 am the night before

Some of the snowboard crowd has tried to portray themselves as skater-punks. I love listening to skier purists with comments like "Do you see how they're dressed?". Old guys like me try to screw all that up by riding and skiing on the same day-without a costume change. To me it's all sledding while standing. I'd be curious what Bode could do on an alpine board...

Jean Claude Killy was sitting at a restaurant before the Grenoble Olympics and a newsman asked
"Why are you drinking wine before these important ski races?"
to which he responded,

"What do you wan't me to do drink milk and ski like an American"

That was the year USA skier "Moose" Barros had the super crash in the Downhill

Bode....again....

ESPN radio 15 minutes ago had Mike & Mike going off on Bode, who in Rolling Stone made comments about Barry Bonds, Lance Armstrong, and his own fear about someone slipping steroids into a drink. It was about a 10 minute radio segment, and they mentioned Bode breaking the athlete code, and speaking definitively about something that is conjecture (Bonds and Lance's steroid use)

M & M went on to lambaste the Bodester, and said they would be rooting for hinm to not win at the olympics. A "Just Shut Up" award from M & M can't be far behind.

Bode is a media darling...have you heard ANYTHING about ANY other winter olympic athlete recently? I'm not sure why he decided to include Armstrong (who did test positive for EPO which is a blood enhancement drug given to recovering cancer patients to boost their blood count), but regarding Bonds I'm not sure what if anything Bode gave up on him.

Does anyone here seriously doubt that Bonds is a steroid user?

M & M's major problem with Bode's statements were that they were declarative. He didn't say "if Bonds..." or "probably Bonds...." but made declarative statements regarding steroid use by others that he couldn't possibly know about or back up. I think M & M felt it was like you or I seen tipsy at a local eatery by a neighbor, who then at the next PTA meeting gets up and declares we're alcoholics in front of the whole town. Um....wait a minute there, buddy....

Maybe Lance and Barry Bonds will be quoted as saying Bode is an alcoholic...which I'm sure Bode would take exception to....

Anyways, I just report the news, and, for better or worse, Bode's got a lot of people rooting against him who, one would think, would be people he'd like rooting for him. His talent on the slopes, amazing.....but if he doesn't deliver the goods in Turin one can only imagine the grief he's going to be subjected to. Talent is one thing. Talent people think you squandered....well, they are pretty ruthless about throwing penalty flags for that.

There's an old saying that where there's smoke there's fire...in addition to a few others about if something smells like sh.....well, I hope you get my point.

Doping has been a big problem in the cycling world.
For a long time. And I don't need Bode to confirm that Bonds is a steroid junkie. And it sounds like Bode might be an alcoholic. And M&M need to titillate listeners, so they need juicy topics to yap about because they're addicted to ratings. And Bode's sponsors don't dump him because he gets ratings baby!

These people are all sleeping in the same bed.

I agree with you about the rest of what you wrote, Bode has certainly put pressure on himself. Maybe he'll thrive on it like Tomba, or maybe he'll wilt.

As for penalty flags for wasted talent, people loved Mickey Mantle right up to the day he died...talk about wasted talent!
