Resort or Ski Area: Bolton Valley Resort

Conditions: man made and early season

Trip Report: I went to Bolton Thursday afternoon to pick up my pass and see how things are coming along. They are putting a new quad in. They have the towers up and the cables were strung (but still slack) but no chairs yet. The trails that they cut this summer are a mess with stumps and trees everywhere. I don't see how they are going to be able to get the stumps out before winter really sets in. There were loaders driving around building roads and just a lot of construction. Lots of roads built all over the mountain and huge piles of trees that were cut down this summer. They have a lot of work to do.

Snow reports says they have 4 trails open but really they just have 2 trails open served by the mid mountain lift (i didn't hit the mitey-mite) so maybe 700 vertical feet of skiing. Skiing is on man made snow and a run takes about 30 seconds.

The snow we got last weekend has blown off on the upper mountain on trails like Show Off and
Hard Luck. There is no base yet at Timberline.

After taking 7 or so runs in a half an hour I hiked up cobrass to the summit. No need for skins because there is only 0"- 10" of light fluff on top of the ground so i just walked.

Snow conditions on the narrower trails looked considerably better. I skied down Preacher and got some good turns in. All the snow has blown into the woods but still too early and scarry for that.

Bolton is celebrating their new quad with $4.00 lift tickets from 12/19 - 12/23. That's a great deal but they need snow.
