Conditions: Classic BW groomed, with some powder available
Trip Report:
Bretton Woods may be the perfect intermediate mountain, and that's not a bad thing, especially for the first day of the season. Conditions were perfect for knocking the rust off. Overall the moutnain is in great shape, with 94 of 101 trails open. I don't know what wasn't open, since I don't recall seeing any ropes up, at least not on anything we wanted to ski. There was some thin cover on one trail off the Rosebrook summit, but I don't know what trail it was. The top of Bode's Run was a bit icy, but nothing too bad. Never more than a 2 chair wait at any lift, which was perfect. 35 degrees and occasional sun in the morning, giving over to clouds and gettign chilly by the afternoon. Breakfast at the Tilt'n Diner set us up well for the day.
We started at Zephyr and went over to the West Mountian area for the beginning of the day, then worked our way across the mountain. Wild West Glade was great- some powder still around, and untracked enough to ski where you wanted. We did find a whole field of untirely untouched powder on Carroll, which was a pleasant surprise.
Coos Caper and Granny's Grit in the middle of the mountain were in fantastic shape, and lots of fun for bombing down. We worked our way across to the Rosebrook Canyon and made a couple of runs through the trees there, with a last run down Roz's. That's not an easy run by any stretch of the imagination- too narrow to turn effectively, with a couple of stream crossings that aded a little excitement.
Overall, great day- my wife got to ride her new skis, and loved them, despite forgetting to put her insoles abck in her boots, so she had nothing in them- not even the factory inserts. I guess she really liked the skis (Atomic RC8's).
Only bad part of the day was that Biederman's in Concord (I think) was closed. I'm still a little depressed over that.
