me too.. i know there are a lot of hard core folks here who never see the inside of a lodge but i ski with my kids often and breaks (especially for my 11 YO) are part of the day. nothing sucks the fun out of a great day on the slopes like walking around in a loop for 20 minutes balancing a tray of food & hot chocolate while waiting for a seat open up
I think the group here has a lot more compassion than you see typed. Many, perhaps even most, have occasion to ski with lesser-obsessed and need to work the table angles and navigate the green trails too. I know I do - raising three kids, one of them fairly hesitant about skiing and a wife to match, mean I just reset my expectations for the day and find enjoyment in the greens and in the lodge. There is nothing worse than the "hassle factor" of skiing when trying to get three kids on/off the slopes. A ski valet won't help much, but access to a table, clear shot to the bathroom and age-appropriate food helps. I have my "big boys days" where I get to prove I'm not all I'm cracked up to be
My favorite retort when confronted with a seat saver is, "OK, we're not staying long. As soon as we finish eating we'll be gone."
Wakeboardmom, your story is hilarious. I've never encountered a vacant saved table. Usually its a non-skier saving a table for 12.
