Trip Report:
We left from my inlaws in Western Mass a little before 6AM...it was already snowing and there was an inch or two of snow on the ground. The snow was coming down at a good clip from Springfield to Northampton. It lightened up slightly around Whately and there was a faint one lane strip of blacktop to follow on 91. If we passed more 15-20 cars from Springfield to Exit 6 in VT, I'd be surprised. The snow was light and it made passing on the highway interesting. You had a few seconds where you couldn't see a darn thing. We were in the lot at Bromley by about 8:15/8:30AM.
The first few runs were awesome! There was plenty of fresh snow on the sides of the trails that had been untouched. I think we took Boulevard for the first run. After that, we hit Pushover a few times. That was a great run because not a lot of people had skied it. Next up was Havoc...more untracked on the sides. That was the first diamond my wife skied last year, so we made sure we took pics and skied it a few times. What a difference a year makes!
The Blue Ribbon quad had little to no line all day. The Sun Mountain had a line, but nothing that was too long. By around 1:30/2:00, things started to get a bit scratchy. Some of the steeper pitches had a lot of boiler plate, with some powderly moguls mixed in. The mountain was pretty busy...probably given the long weekend. They have a pretty neat boarder/skier cross course set up on Plaza (I think). That was fun to bomb down.
All in all, a good day! We'd been there last year, and since our Mt. Snow passes were blacked out this weekend, we figured we'd head back up to Bromley.
