...and to add a $.01 onto JimG and GadgetRick's, today's skis have tons of torsional rigidity...meaning, they're at their strongest when up on edge....so a little slicing & dicing (carving) through the crud will work better than of trying to track through it with a flat ski.

Looks like a lot of us got the idea to seek professional guidance when faced with conditions that were atypical for the east coast. I was at Waterville last Friday, 2/11 the day after they picked up 15-18" of fresh. I'm powder and bumb challenged as well. I played on the greens and blues to build confidence and then when they put the summit quad and sunnyside on windhold I decided to take a lesson if I was going to keep doing laps on the "bunny trails."

I got the same good tips many others have related with the following difference. First she told me to fuggadabout carving in the pow and to think more about skidding. (I'm sort of a one trick skier so this is a challenge for me.)

Then my instructor advised a more upright stance (I tend to hunker down) in the pow and bumps. She indicated that when I reached the bump I should let my knees come up at that point and let them drop after I went over the bump. If your crouched pre-bump your knees have no travel left in them and you are likley to launch off of the top of the bump. She also taught me what she called a compression turn. Basically involves truning at the top of the bump when the knees are bent and extending the legs back into a more upright stance after the turn is completed.

Anyway it was a good use of an hour and I think I picked up some valuable info.
