Today at Burke was imo the best day of the year so far as we got 6-8 inches overnight following the 2 feet which made conditions out of control. The mountain started off with nobody on it, just me and two other folks I was riding with it seemed as we had first tracks on some very popular trails (Wilderness, Doug's, Lower Dipper, Marshes). The ungroomed was awesome as a new coat of a half a foot made riding on the chopped two feet of snow awesome and the best ive ridden at Burke ever. One of the guys riding with me was a local who grew up here and a true powder-hound, he said today was the best he rode ever, coming from him it meant something. As the day went on conditions turned BlueBird and it truely seemed like we were in Utah or even better, Mount Alyeska. We had the mountain to ourselves even though late in the day more people showed up as the sun made the day magical. All in all a week of powder and many awesome memories.

Burke sounds like a great mountain. Unfortunately, I don't ever see the opportunity to get there. It's far from my parent's house in southern NH, which is my north base, and it's more expensive than a lot of closer options (Cannon, Black, MRG on a weekday). Do they ever run any promotions like Wildcat's $9 lift ticket or Sugarbush's $14 V-Day special?

Yep, Burke is too far and too expensive to bother with ($57 at Burke vs $64 at Cannon?). Not worth it at all. :???:

Burke @ $43 with college ID, Cannon @ $46 with college ID. Burke says its college pass is only good for ages 18-24, so if they ask for ID (they're the only ski area that lists an age limit online, so why wouldn't they ask?), I'm stuck driving 3 hours to pay full price, when I could drive half that and pay less. Multiply that times two for my wife, and it's 3 extra hours round trip in the car to pay $22 more. At this stage in my life when money is tight and I'm trying to buy my first house, it's not worth it.

Burke is only 40 minutes past Cannon not 1.5 hours. Why people think it is so much farther is unknown to me . . However, I can appreciate your financial situation and realize you gotta take whatever deals you can find.

The age limit on the college pass has been a source of contention for a lot of people (don't get Trailboss started on that one ;-) ). There are a lot of college students that ride at Burke and I think Burke is trying to limit the number of people trying to use old expired college IDs after graduation.

No rant intended here folks, just replying to the points made.

I will only say that the age limit does not solve the problem and ended up cutting out some older students who would have skied (not to mention the older students who are enrolled in College under the GI bill and find themselves shut out now).

My SO is an avid skier and in Med School at UVM. She is over the age limit. She has a valid UVM ID with an expiration date on it. She is not going to Burke because they have this rule. Why lose her business?

And anectdotally, I can say that this policy is not being enforced for season passes. I know of at least two people who walked right in to the pass office, presented either expired or false ID's, and got a student pass. Those of us who played by the rules lose again. What's the point of having the rule if it isn't going to be enforced?

Having a rule that isn't enforced just cost them more business....

Requiring a verified transcript or letter from the Registrar was the way to solve the problem for season passes. It was what I did for them for the seasons I was a student. This is what literally 99% of the other resorts require.

There are other places that want my business more I guess. I skied at Burke to be with the folks I knew.

My significant rider (wifey) is a grad student and almost hitting 30 therefore she was out of the game for a student pass but to us its well-worth the money. Burke is a magical place to be and not too far from canon (about 40 mins) therefore I think it would be in your interest one time to come check it out, I prmise it wont disappoint, also Ill buy you a beer for your trouble!!! Everyone come on down!
