2006-2007 Report # : 37

ROTD: East Bowl (Powderhorn was a close second).

Trip Report: Well, I am barely awake....after this weekend and skiing today from first chair until 3:45pm. It was a long one, but a fun one.

Started out with turns with the original trailboss and some folks from the local Dawn Patrol....from 8-10:15am or so. We started out on East Bowl: it was amazing. Sunrise, frost in the air, sparkling fresh groomed snow. Just perfect. The original trailboss went full charge down it....I was right behind him. "Doesn't get much better than that," we both said at the bottom.

Next run was down Powderhorn. Much of the same. Fresh MG and sunrise.

From there we did Carriage Road to Dippers before taking a short break. It was in good shape too, but I found that the left side of the knoll was scratchy.

After the short break, we did a spin down Dippers, which was great. Then a spin down Upper Bear Den to Willoughby and then down Lower Fox's. The original trailboss almost lost it in the remnants of the terrain park on Lower Fox's. Beware.

Next run was down Shoot to Meadows and then down Lower Willoughby. Willoughby was getting scratchy, but lower was in good shape.

At this point, I took a spin to the Lower Mountain to meet my brother and take him up. We skied to the Willoughby Quad and then hit East Bowl. He was :D to be on freshly waxed skis and to be on East Bowl. "Wow. That was amazing!"

We caught up with the original trailboss and his crew for some conversation before they called it quits.

My brother and I then went on to hit Powderhorn to Dipper Doodle, and then Carriage Road to Dippers and Boarderline. Boarderline was good, but there were some thin spots that caught me by surprise. The Shoot-Warren's Way run was good, but the latter was getting scratchy in places. We did a spin down Camper's Carry to Bear Den and Willoughby to Lower Fox's before taking a spin down East Bowl to get lunch at the base lodge.

We enjoyed lunch at the top of the mountain and chatted with some folks. After, we did another spin down East Bowl.

The rest of the afternoon we did spins down Powderhorn, Carriage Road, Dippers, the Lower Mountain (Bunker Hill and Dashney), Upper and Lower Willoughby's, and two more East Bowl runs. I did hit the bumps of Wilderness, which were good.

At 3:45 we called it quits and I skied all the way to the base with him before riding the HSQ back to Mid Burke.

A great day. Long one, but great day. When I told the lifties I was getting tired, they said, "come on, take another run," at which time I mentioned when I had started.

Now to bed....

Nice! I did a long day on Friday - 8:30 am - 4 pm with 30 minutes for lunch. My legs are still tight today. That's rare for me mid-season...

Taxing but rewarding.
