2006 Trip Report #: 45!!!! Ties a Trailboss Record for Most Days in a Season!!!(2002-2003 was also 45).
Resort: Burke Mountain
Conditions: 3-5 inches of P on top of MG
Weather: Cold with snow. Highs in the 10's.
Trip Report: And just when you thought it could not get any better, it did. Amazing day.
Got there for 8am chair. Well, the original trailboss was there before me. I caught up with him and the crew. We skied together until 11am. The most amazing conditions in the world. Pow on top of MG pow. Simply incredible.
First run was down Bear Den to Meadows and then over to Willoughby and down Lower Fox's. Fast was the only way to ski it. No ice, no scraping, just pure bliss and powder. I got a bit too close to the folks ahead of me who were blasting snow in my face as they ripped.
We then did a spin down Shoot to Warren's Way. Wow. I was cranking it on the headwall. Simply amazing. Upper Warren's has been consistently good all season. Today was no exception. On the lower part, I had snow shooting up my pants and up to my belt line. Wow.
The original trailboss said that the next run was Powderhorn. Good choice. Ironed out and in great shape. We hit the rolls and dips before cutting back onto Dippers.
After a break, we did Carriage Road which was in great shape. I will say that we were exposed to a completely "full moon" at the top....man that thing was hanging out for so long as the guy struggled to get his snowboard on that he must have gotten frost bitten! We were all  about it. Enough of that....Dippers skied great, even with all that snow fencing for the Eastern Cup.
Next run was down Upper and Lower Willoughby, which was getting cut up and bumpy. No complaints mind you
The final run with the Dawn Patrol was down an amazing East Bowl. Groomed last night and still some untracked powder. The original trailboss summed it up: doesn't get much better than that.
I took another short break and then went solo. I did a spin down Camper's Carry to Bear Den and then the Ledges. Found some more great deep snow, so I decided to do some laps on the Poma. Did another Warren's run and had some more incredible powder shots....the stuff was coming up your side as you were turning.... the kind of conditions you dream of. One more spin down Ledges and then back to the quad for a run down East Bowl, Powderhorn/Dipper Doodle (nice bumps and well covered) and East Bowl again before taking lunch at 1pm.
Just missed the Big Air Contest....oh well. I did hear that on my break the quad broke down. Luckily for me and my rubber legs, it was back on at 1:30 or so. I did one more run down East Bowl and called it quits.
Simply amazing conditions this weekend. Really great and no crowds at all! Hope you got out.
Oh yeah....I made a stop at the mountain shop on the way home to update my Burke Gear. That was a mistake for my wallet.....got a new hoodie and a Burke fleece.
Next weekend: pond skimming.
