Burke will never be crowded because its a good hill, not great.

Jay has great tree skiing and close to 400" a year, Burke has good tree skiing and 250" a year.

Stowe has 300+ inches, better terrain and amenities, plus its actually near Burlington and some sort of nightlife.

Burke is a good hill that caters to our type, the diehard skier. For everyone else its a nice place to visit, but not great.

There are plenty of nice places to visit that are much closer than an optimistic three hours...

Burke is a better mountain than almost anything within a definite three hours of Boston (no more optimistic than 2 hours to Cannon or Loon). If Burke got the snow Jay did, I would never ski Jay.

Its funny because after skiing both Jay and Burke for the past decade, for the most part I would say Jay is a very nice intermediate ski experience, a lot of thinned, low angle glades and a only a couple of options for people who don't ski trees, lots of run out and generally wind blown ice inbounds while Burke has tighter more technical woods lines, better quality due to less wind, multiple options for cruising back down -

Can I expect < 5 min lift lines at Burke on MLK and President's weekends? Even Saddleback can get fairly long lift lines on those days.

I understand your point, but honestly comparing Stowe to Burke is really not a good comparison at all. Both are completely different experiences. Different strokes for different folks.

These are the weekends that may get close to challenging the promotion (if only for a few hours). Typically, the only time the lines even begin to approach 5 minutes on these holiday weekends is between 10:30 and 11:00.

The reason why Burke is not crowded is because their bed base is only about 160 Condos. Compared to Loon which has about the same trail acreage with a bed base of over 3,000 Condos.

Finally made it to Burke this weekend, been dying to go since I saw NEK's pictures here (and on NASIOC). I LOVE BURKE!

Never waited more then 2-3 chairs to get on the quad.

Deals every day of the week

I was at Burke last week and they have really been banging out deals this year. Yes they have the five minute lift line garantee which really doesn't cause them too much trouble because I've never actually seen a line at Burke. But they also have a deal for practically every day of the week!

Sunday - ski NEK style half days $18 lift ticket $18 rental and an $18 lesson, J bar free!. You don't even have to be from Vermont! This seems like a great way to get your beginners out without breaking the bank.

Monday - buy a two day ticket for Saturday and Sunday and ski Monday for free

Tuesday - Silver streakers (sounds naughty but it's encouraged!) 55 plus? ski for $20
Wednesday- wild something Wednesday I don't remember and it's not on there site but it has to do with cheap skiing with a text message.

Thursday - This one is my favorite! College carloads! A carload of students for $40 (talk about splitting the bill!) The catch! Bring your VALID student ID and just like your mommy told you. Wear your seatbelt!

Friday - it's for the freehealers Telemark tickets are only $30! (Are they challenging the MRG claim on telemarkers of the east?)

Oh yeah and if you ski Saturday and Sunday but you get there early well then just ski for FREE on Friday

I for one am very excited to have the area I learned to ski at finally get down with the deals that have drawn me away. Burke really is a gem. Oh yeah check there site because they have been adding stuff this winter skiburke.com

Come visit me! It's really worth the drive. When I was still a flatlander I could make it from northern MA in 3 hours and it's the easiest drive ever.

How about the lack of child care?
For me, Burke is a non-starter due do that reason, and I'm sure many other families who want to go there cannot go.

I'm sorry I just saw all the conversation about Burke and the continuing debate about lines and distance and thought I would share the stuff I noticed about prices. I was really excited.

No need to apologize. Welcome to the boards. It is good to have another Burke skier....
