I'm sorry I just saw all the conversation about Burke and the continuing debate about lines and distance and thought I would share the stuff I noticed about prices. I was really excited.
I was just kidding. It just read like an ad considering it was your first post and it was ironically timed considering the other thread. Just a joke, welcome aboard.

How about the lack of child care?
For me, Burke is a non-starter due do that reason, and I'm sure many other families who want to go there cannot go.

They do have an excellent children's ski program that starts at age 3. For those with younger children there is daycare close by. But I agree, Once they attract more skier's they will certainly have to provide daycare again.

Re the daycare issue: While it certainly would be easier to have an onsite daycare the base lodge is comfortable enough, the yurt is open enough, and it isn't taboo to have your little ones running around, we do it every weekend, there are some nice snow shoe/mt bike trails to use right at the base and some nice xc trails close by to use, throw the kid on your back and enjoy for a couple hours

Burke is certainly a very family friendly and kid safe ski resort. With the novice area being completely separate from the upper mountain the kids and beginners have a safe place to ski and play.

I Skied all weekend, the conditions were really sweet, packed powder and powder. The longest lift line was Sunday between 11 and 2 pm. Once I waited in line about 3 1/2 minutes.

As I understand it, the main lift at Burke is really slow? Is that accurate? I have just gone to Magic, and that red lift is pretty darn slow (although at least it is very steep.)

It is not a high speed quad. I would say that it runs at a slightly above average speed for a fixed grip lift. It covers the 1700 feet of vert in roughly 12.5 minutes. However, since there will be no line, you can get plenty of laps in and you will often have the chair to yourself.
Wish I could go tomorrow before the meltdown starts Monday.

It's slow, but not close to as slow as the Magic lift. For a change of pace, hit the slightly faster Poma for a few runs.

For MLK I would suggest skiing on Friday. $15 ski club day. I am getting up there as well that weekend with the family (kids 7, 9 and 11). Well Friday there, Saturday at Jay and Sunday at Cannon on the way home. Not sure what kind of place you are looking for - cheap, midrange, condo or what. I am going cheap with http://www.lynburkemotel.com/ not going to be spending much time there just to sleep.

how will the crowds be that Sat/Sun/Mon? unfortunatly we cant make it up for Friday....

Can't speak for MLK weekend. But we already have our reservations for Prez weekend. Went there last year on Prez weekend for the first time and was (happily) stunned by lack of crowds and wonderful terrain. After the prez weekend madness (Tuesday) we head up to JP for the remainder of the week. The boys and I think Burke will pretty much be an annual trip for us we like it that much.

We stay at the Lyndon Motor lodge, cheap ($55/night) but very clean. Some good restaurants in town. Just ask around in the bears den lounge for advice (favorite ski bar ever) at the mid mountain lodge. Also available is a local microbrewery that serves some killer pizza on weekends.

Crowds? What are the crowds? ;)

As to places to stay, what is your budget? Needs?

Ski school: generally very good. Very small groups and sometimes group lessons can be, well private lessons.

Have a back-up plan for activities if it r&*(s. Fairbanks Museum in St. Jay is good, Cabot Creamery is also fun.
