Small compared to what? Small is a relative word. I would think that vertically it's probably in the bottom half for Vermont. He does say the terrain is kick ass. I don't consider 1600' small but I don't consider 1000' that small either especially if the terrain is good. Magic is a special place and just great to ski. I look forward to getting back.

To be fair, he did call it a "great place to go". Although it is definitely not "very small".

Strangely enough though, when I went there I was disappointed pulling into the carpark. It seemed to be the same size as Wachusett to me - this was further compounded when I got on the slow red chair. I was thinking "uh oh" to myself. However, the trails totally eclipsed that, and I discovered a great mountain full of complex trails. The first time I've ever been grateful for a slower ride back up the mountain I have to admit!

I'll give you "small" as a relative word, but "very small" is stretching it.

I definitely wouldn't call the place very small, but he did say they had good terrain. It's not worth it to me to 'like' Liftopia just so I can comment.

I'd bet a top to bottom run (pick your route, so long as it's the fastest way down) @ Magic takes longer than anywhere else in soVT.

Incedentially, I'm going Hocus Pocus>Trick>Wand>Show Off. A real badass might just take Red Line ;)

Fastest top to bottom run.......Witch>Black Line> Hocus Pocus. That would be my pick.

Carpet>Medium>Wand>Show Off wouldn't be a bad option either if you are a good glider. That turn at the bottom of Trick is going to kill your speed before getting to the flats of Wand.

I'd hazard to say Magic skis as much vertical as most places in Vermont, including K-mart. Despite many areas claiming some burly vertical drop, the average vertical per run - such as off the K1 Gondola - is usually well under 2000'. Sugarbush and Mad River are the few exceptions I can think of. Folks lapping the main face at Mt Sneaux or Magic are probably getting as much or more vertical per run than some of the bigger names.

Yes, the current owner maintains the trails and even has a groomer. Lots of snowmobile action along with some snowboard competitions have been held in the last few years.

Is there a working lift on that side, just curious, not familiar with the area other then what I read from time to time on here.

No, but according to SJ/Nelsap, they're hoping to put in a T-bar at some point. At the moment the owner(s) just use snowmobiles.
