I have part of next week off and figured that if there are still lifts turning somewhere, why not take advantage of it. I wouldn't mind turning it into a mini camping trip. Are there any free (or realllly cheap) campgrounds near Killington where I could crash after skiing a few days? I think the weathers gettin warm enough to make it enjoyable.

I could always crash in the subaru if it comes right down to it but I'd rather tent. Any info?

I've camped in Gifford Woods State Park which is just north of Killington on Rte 100. Not much money and real quiet during the week.

huh

You did say next week...right? You can't get much closer to Kmart than Gifford Woods SP, only problem is it's not open until end of May. Since it is in the woods and up pretty high there is probably still snow on the ground and the bathrooms are boarded shut. I would suggest calling them, if there is anyone there, maybe they have an outhouse and it's okay to camp even tho they are not open.

Most campgrounds in NE are summer only with a few exceptions. One being outside of Stowe. Suggest calling the Rutland Chamber to see if any of the private campgrounds are open. I hope you find something but I think sleeping in the car will be pretty much your only option.

When I was young and ski bumming out west we used to park overnight in the parking lot of a large bar, parking away from the bar. Worked out great, stumbling distance to the sleeping bag and bathrooms until 2 AM. The Pickle Barrel and Wobbly Barn might work.

I know this is going to sound crazy but if your desparate it's Walmart's policy to allow RV and car camping in their parking lots. I was in the Rutland Walmart a couple of months ago and saw several people doing just that. The interesting thing about the Rutland Walmart is that it's in the downtown, you can walk to everything.
