Has anyone done this? I was thinking of camping out for the grand opening at the Dedham, MA store next week. They are giving out gift cards to the first 500. Is it safe to camp out and do they set up porta potties? I have never done this so hopefully someone has some tips for me.

Thanks all!

I heard of people camping out for the Cicis pizza buffet grand opening because the award for the first several hundred people was a free meal once a month for a year. How much is the gift card for? It doesn't seem worth it unless it's enough for at least a fleece or something..

I think they are anything from $25 to $500.

Depends where in Dedham it is!

The new outdoor type mall is right off RT 1 and close to RT 128/95. I've never been to Dedham so I have no idea.

I read on some other forums about Ikea and other store grand openings in which they let those waiting in line use the restroom in the store.

And the last LL Bean opening in Mansfield, MA: some news articles I read about it said that LL Bean folks gave free breakfast and shirts and whatnot to the overnight campers.

Well, I will bring a knife and a bottle anyway just in case!

I spent the night on the sidewalk at circuit city one year for black friday. They had nobody in the store to let you use the bathroom or anything but open the door at 5am.

We did not camp, but had folding chairs to sit in. I took a few short naps, but basically a night with no sleep.

Once you're done, you should go camp out at an Eddie Bauer grand opening.
Bring extra toilet paper. It'll be a long wait.

Hahaha. Well I will let everyone know how it goes for future reference. The two of us will at least get paid $50 in gift cards for a little sleep deprivation. It is worth it to me and I will be hoping to draw the big gift cards.

We'll expect a full trip report.

Since it was raining we decided not to camp but leave the house around 5 AM and we got there about 5:40. We were about 100th in line and drew the $25 gift cards. We stayed pretty dry under the store overhangs. There were several police cars patrolling and a security guard. There were also several porta potties set up. Wholefoods folks were there handing out coffee and danishes. Overall a good experience for some free gift cards! A guy 2 in front of us got a $100 GC and a lady 10-20 back got a $500 gift card. Wish I could have been as lucky.
